New primary dr and lots of changes

[Da...]

Recommended Posts

I saw a new primary care doctor a week ago and we talked a lot about my sxs, my Meds and my supplements. She told me to stop all the supplements immediately (magnesium, vitamin d3, b12 and vitamin c). She said if I was healthy and fine prior to this debacle that she wanted to get me back to that state. She said I sound "medication naive" and that I'm very sensitive to medications which is why she thinks less is more. She went through my list of meds and supplements and said every single one has a side effect of nausea. 😳 Hence the horrible nausea, in her opinion.

Well I stopped everything last week and I'm dog tired. I can't hardly keep my eyes open. I can't drink caffeine bc it ramps me up. I tried a smaller amount of b12 but it doesn't seem to help and tried upping it yesterday and it ramped me up a bunch. I'm having horrible palpitations which have been going on for a few weeks (so before the change in supplements) and I'm trying magnesium oil for that but haven't seen much improvement.

Has anyone experienced this with stopping supplements? Or with the palpitations? Any suggestions for either the exhaustion or palpitations?

Just a suggestion...why don't you quit trying to ingest chemicals to address your issues, and give your natural body's self-healing process a chance to work?

You know, like your doc suggested?

I told you about what vitamin B did to me before dad. I cannot take ANY supplements NONE I have reactions to all of them. Some people can take them, I cannot and a lot of other people cannot take supplements that I've spoke to. Especially B. Heart Palps have em all day every day for the most part. Try laying on floor with butt against wall and put feet up on wall. On surviving antidepressants website there is yoga poses you'll find it there. Supplements cannot be tolerated by a lot of people. Methylated B almost put me in hospital. Oh and btw my husband takes gabapentin for nerve pain and it causes him heart palpitations, a lot of people can take it but he can't. Everyone is different. But heart Palps are a side effect for some on gabapentin.

Exhaustion,  sometimes my body feels like it weighs a thousand pounds. I just have to lay down there's no getting around it. Carol Dickson has a yoga in bed dvd, she has some free videos on YouTube so you can see her poses to see if you like it. I can't tell you how often I'm doing child's pose on the bed when my anxiety is high. I want to start restorative yoga but it's too much for me right now. But the yoga in bed is good if you can't do much else.

I had to give up supplements during this taper. Felt nauseous all the time. Maybe this new doctor actually had a point. I'd try listening instead of doing things contrary to what probably good advice you're given. If you're eating reasonably well..you don't need supplements.

Gabapentin actually helps my muscles but no palpitations at all. Calming effect if anything. It's extremely true. Everyone is different.

But seriously. Why not listen to the doctor and let your body heal on its own. In time it will.  B

I think there's a misunderstanding here. I DID stop all supplements. I just feel exhausted like I'm drugged up and wondered if anyone had experienced that when stopping supplements. And a week and a half off the supplements I'm still exhausted, nauseous, and having palpitations.

No need to be harsh folks. I'm just trying to stay alive here. Sorry I asked.

The way your post reads is that you stopped then took a bit of b12 again..and then a bit of magnesium. Maybe I'm not reading it right. Sorry I responded. B

builder, the voice of reason, said it all. I quit all supplements a long time ago (which weren't much) and I felt more healthy. I do have bit of fatigue these days but this is w/d, not supplements. I would prefer to sleep too much rather than stay up all night. Supplements are rarely regulated, so you don't know what you are getting. I believe your doctor is right on. I know that magnesium kept me up at night.

Yes I tried a little b12 again hoping it would help with the exhaustion but stopped it after a few days. The mag oil was applied topically not ingested..... I've been off all supplements for a week and a half now. Maybe I didn't clarify that well enough but honest to God this group was my rock through the hardest parts of my taper and now I avoid it like the plague because I feel like every time I post I get the snottiest, harshest responses.

Dad try not to get too "out of sorts" with the group......I'm mean we all do step out of line at times and maybe come across as snarky. I honestly believe everyone is just trying to help

I can see how people are trying to help but I feel like attitudes have changed. And look, I know I'm not the easiest person to deal with and I don't always listen to the advice given.

dad i know we're all suffering and i was just trying to be helpful. i can tell you that b12 i only took for four days and it did me in for awhile. but that was my experience. i suffer from the exhaustion but its just part of withdrawal. i have to be very careful with anything i put on my skin (transdermal) because it absorbs in the skin and i get reactions. the heart palps yoga pose i told you about really helps with my heart palps. i know we're all suffering and trying to give advice that has worked for US but in the end its all anectodal because we are all different. i hope you feel better. i hope we all feel better.

Hey Dad24 - glad you checked back in - I've been wondering how you're doing!

I, too, have tried various supplements, and I truly think that SOME Of them do work (niacin and niacinamide, for example, definitely helped me during taper...or I thought they did, and maybe that was all that mattered...lol.)

Sometimes B vitamins help and sometimes they don't. I took a methyl B12 & methyl-folate today during lunch (because I was having a REALLY rough day) and YOWZA! I am about to go THROUGH THE ROOF! But I'm okay and functioning and am at work.

At the end of the day, I may just stick with the niacin (and I also take Magnesium Glycinate) and call it a day. Whenever I go back and read my old posts, I am able to see a distinct pattern of when I feel horrid and when I am halfway stable.

I'm making pretty big cuts (again, even though it completely backfired on me the last time) because I so desperately want off this poison. I don't even feel my doses anymore, but I was in such a state at 4 weeks after jumping, I'm going as LOW as I can go and am HOLDING to make sure I'm okay.

It's perfectly normal to wonder about the cause of your debilitating symptoms and try to attribute them to a cause (what did I do or not do to make it bad again...) BUT - everyone is right when they say that TIME is truly the one thing that will make this better! Sometimes just seeing that others are going through the same thing and can understand (when no one else can remotely come close) is a huge, huge help.
