HORRENDOUS sweating

Does anyone else experience really uncomfortable sweating? I know it's a WD symptom bc until tapering, I've never dealt with this. What causes the body to do this? Is it a sign of stress on the body or is the body cleansing itself?

I think this is my most bothersome symptom at the moment. I feel good except this sweating that started 4 days after my last big cut. Ugh.

Its a sign of an imbalance (like most symptoms).  For me, it had the odor of a nervous/anxious sweat (not a physical work-out sweat).  I mostly hated it in my hands.  They were always sticky/tacky (my hands are usually pretty dry).  I didn't want to shake hands with people, and just handling stuff was sometimes awkward.  Playing piano sucked.  Fortunately, it ends.

My next question was going to be if it ends after I am totally off or if it continues on through your taper...but I see you went CT if I'm reading your signature correctly. Wow!

I don't recommend it (c/t), but it worked for me (I'm pretty stubborn).  I'm gonna guess that these sweats will be an occasional 'friend' as you taper down, and that they'll end for good after you're off benzos altogether.

Sweating is the primary way the body cools itself and regulates body temperature.  Body temperature regulation is under the control of the hypothalamus in the brain.  It does this through a complicated process of linking the endocrine system and the nervous system.  Taking benzo drugs alters body chemistry and interrupts the way this process naturally occurs.  So, when we taper and withdraw, the hypothalamic thermostat can get all out of whack while trying to default back to its pre benzo settings.  That's way over-simplified, but maybe it helps you to understand it. So, as you taper, jump and heal, the hypothalamus can regain control again without the chemical bath of benzos getting in the way.  All that excessive sweating should go away.  I know it pretty much has for me.

Thanks for all the replies. I know there are many worse symptoms that I could w facing currently...this one is just so noticeable. And miserable. It lasted all day and now seems to be better.

She, thank you for the detailed response. For some reason, when I have a medical/scientific explanation, it eases my mind. I see it as my body fighting to get to pre benzo level, and I feel that's exactly what is supposed to happen (miserable or not). Anything that means my body is reacting to having less of this poison and is fighting to get well gives me comfort.

Yes sweating...I have been sweating on and off right along. Early on i would wake with it dripping off of me. If it is during the day, a shower or washing my face (my face feels wet most often now) will give me a break from it for a while. I find getting anxious about something or stress can increase it at times. It has gotten better but not over it yet.
