Experience with rescue doses

I'm often reading about taking rescue doses.

How many of you have taken them if you are honest,

and how have they effected your taper and healing?

I took a dose of Klonopin about 9 months after my taper to deal with some situational anxiety. i didn't like it at all and I threw away my pills right after. I didn't like the way it made me feel because I'd learned new coping skills. I've done mindfullness meditation and exercise so when I took the pill it made me feel like I didn't have control of my mind state anymore, like I was in a fog. It made me realize how much I liked being off the medications and coping with reality as it is. I'm never going back.

Honestly I am still tapering my Ativan and have rescue dosed twice. Honestly, the rescue dose may have been small, but it did nothing for me.  If only it had. It really didn't effect my taper. I just was scared that it might become habit so I'm trying to avoid it. As soon as I am off Ativan for a couple weeks to see how it goes my left overs will be tossed.

When I got ahead of my healing, and holding wasnt going to cut it, I updosed to balance the books and held until stable...

I rescue dose on occasion if i need to function for the day, ie Drs etc... But now i take gabapentin instead, as i have to take it anyway at times for nerve pain, and that suits my particular individual need...

My updose and rescue doses have been great for my taper, I can push down hard, knowing I can step back if i need... But i dont do it lightly, and addiction isnt the problem, -Dependence is the beast...

Its good your looking for info... But pls remember to be very sure its your own informed decision , based on your situation... It seems that some can and some cant. Or perhaps it works for some and not others...

You have rec'd wonderful information...I used to be hard core on the "DO NOT" ever do it, but the more I read and progress on my own journey to recovery the more I see that there are many ways to attain wellness and we each have to choose our own path but what we gain here at BB is knowledge about how decisions affected others..

A take away that is helpful to me is to have an exit plan, AKA Plan B!!!!  That way you don't have to have a panic or anxiety attack if the 1st path doesn't work out.

Best wishes...

I'm on Valium and I have taken maybe 5 rescue doses of xanax(about 1 mg each time) since I started Valium. In all honesty they didn't really make me feel any better :-\ They also didn't hinder my taper.
