My goal is FREEDOM

Hi there. I found this site searching for online support for benzo withdrawal. I am addicted and want to be free. Been on and off Valium for perhaps5 or 6 years and now have turned to Xanax all the time because my script ran out and I can find them from "friends". I am very health minded and want to be free but daily the withdrawals kick in and I say, "Maybe later..soon, I'll quit soon." and I take more. Tomorrow I have an appt with a med provider at a mental health place and my goal was to try to get him/her to prescribe benzos but I think I want to tell the truth and see if they will help me taper. I don't know...?

Hi lifecrafter8  Welcome to Benzobuddies!

Sounds like a good plan to come clean with your med provider and ask for taper support. You will receive a lot of support and information here on withdrawing from benzodiazepines. . The recommended withdrawal/tapering rate for those who have taken benzos for more than a short time,  is 5 to 10% reductions every 10-14 days

To get started, the Ashton Manual is an authoritative  source on benzo withdrawal and recovery, written by an expert in the field.  It explains how the benzos affect the body, and  also lists symptoms that are caused by withdrawal or reduction ..

I told the truth...that I was addicted and looking for some help weening off. They would not give me any (mostly due to the fact that I take Suboxone and you are not supposed to do benzos with that). Instead prescribed GABAPENTIN, HYDROXYZINE, and BUPROPION.

Feeling nervous to get involved with MORE drugs instead of less.

Anyone have experience with Gabapentin? Sounds like people end up having to go through withdrawals from that stuff too! Ugh.
