Benzo Withdrawl x100

Long story short, I was prescribed Xanax and Klonipin while my Psychiatrist was trying to find a long term med for depression and anxiety. I continued to take these two Benzos for over 4 years, with the most recent cocktail consisting of 4 mg of a Klonipin and 8mg of Xanax. I tried a slow taper with the oversight of a new Psychiatrist. After a few days of a slow taper, I lost control. I was told to go to a rehab center to detox off them. This was hell on Earth!! Currently taking the following:

Celexa.    40mg. 1 x per day

Zoffran.    4 mg.  2x per day

Zyrtec.    10mg.  1x per day

Catapress. .1mg. 2x a day

Omeprazole 40 mg. 2x a day

Nuerontin 900 mg. 7am and 5 p

Vistaril - 50mg bedtime

Seraquel - 100mg at beftime

Over the counter

Dramamine - for dizziness

Ibuprofen - muscle aches

I am two months from stopping the Benzos, and this is still kicking my butt. Symptoms are the same as before. Maybe a little better, but not even close for a normal life. I have yet to meet anyone in my same position. Looking for any help to ease the withdrawal process.

Hi Madog2099  Welcome to Benzobuddies

It sounds like you have come off these drugs too fast. The nature of benzos is that they are best tapered slowly, at a suggested rate of 5/10% every 10/14 days.  Detox places tend to take you off far too quickly.

Sorry you are still having a rough time of it.  Any symptoms you are experiencing are temporary, they will ease off, but it does take quite some time for the CNS to recover.

I will put a link to the Ashton Manual, it is a definitive resource about these medications and how to withdraw. It also discusses the effects these types of medications have on the body.  Professor Ashtons Manual

We do have a dedicated board for those people who have done a cold turkey or rapid withdrawal.  Cold Turkey Detox & Rapid Withdrawal Board

Please feel free to ask questions, members can respond with the best information if they know your medication history so I will ask you to create a signature line listing your medication and dose.  Here are the directions to do that: ”Create a signature”

Welcome aboard
