Symptoms magnified 100x if I don't sleep

Does anyone else have this issue.  I can only sleep (just about) every other day.  On the days I do not sleep my symptoms are dreadful and the worse being severe (and I mean severe) gasping for breath all day till I take my evening dose of valium.  Also anxiety and body twitching is worse.

God knows how I,m going to survive jumping - I,m down to about 1mg taken at night.

would like to hear from others about this  ???

thanks and take care all

Sorry to hear about what you are going through. I have teh same issue. Since I jumped I sleep once every 3-4 days and it makes all symptoms worse, especially depression. When I sleep, I can handle this. When I don't sleep, the symptoms are a nightmare. I have done extensive reading on this site and success stories and it appears it will normalize in time. some people a month or two after jumping, and some people it can take over a year. I am not happy with either of those outcomes and I know what it is like to want sleep now. You are not alone my friend. You are not alone. It sucks. I think it is the worst symptom of this nightmare. We just have to keep pushing and one day it will be past us. I certainly pray so. Feel free to message me anytime you need to talk. I know what you are going through. Best regards - Joe

I'm still in the middle of a taper and experiencing this.  I agree that it's the worst, and the symptoms are magnified 1000 times without the sleep.  I wish there was a solution to this, Non GABA Rx, or whatever.    Prayers to all

Yep. This is a thing. Sure it sucks to not sleep then get hit with an increase of symptoms. It's just part of the flames we have to walk through to get through to our healthy, drug-free futures. It will be worth the fight. You do learn to adapt to the increase in symptoms so they're not as upsetting. Trust yourself and believe in the process.

Totally.  Its all about the sleep in my opinion...

Thanks guys for your feedback and support - I think I would top myself if I thought I was the only one going thru this cr*p.

Last nite no sleep at all and again awful symptoms.  What I don't understand is I NEVER feel tired even when loosing sleep.  I just feel hyper and jittery.  >:(  Is this normal !!!!

This is not helping my hypothyroid issue one bit or my immune system.

again thanks for replies.

take care all.

Been there doing that twice ! Yes sleep deprivation  amplifies symptoms and makes this experience that more painfull. In My opinion do or try everything possible to get some sleep, the web has hundreds of articles and info.  I also agree prayers and healing to Us all.

I have tried many things to try and get some sleep and relax my nervous system  - magnesium, melatonin, niacin, low dose mirtazapine (no longer working) herbal sleep med called Asphalia, antihistamines, supplements to lower cortisol - but i think these have back-fired and may be causing cortisol to go too low.

I am at a loss really just like many of us here - this sucks so much !!!

It would help if I could slow my breathing down - that would be a start. :-\

I had to stack multiple supplements all together for them to work...

Hopeandfaith,

What did your stack include - my current stack is magnesium, tart cherry tabs, theanine on some nights, pinch mirtazapine, my 1 mg of valium, and 2mg melatonin - and still only just about calming down but not getting sleepy at all.

Did you find anything herbal to calm you CNS and slow down your breathing.

thanks for your advice

I feel your pain and exhaustion. I have been there, but slowly and surely I am getter better. So there is hoI encourage to have them check. I switch to a holistic psychiatrist eight months ago because I was misdiagnosed by the first one and caused me to be in this journey that I am going through now. Things happen for a reason, and I am glad about my experience after all. But I have learned to forgive, accept, and release anger. The reason I didn't go to a holistic psychiatrist first is because of insurance issues and thinking about the expense of buying supplements; but let me tell you that is the best thing I have done. I have always been a believer of alternative medicine because I come from Peru, South America, and over there people have taken herbs, roots, seeds, plants,pe, never lose hope! Sleep deprivation is very debilitating. If you think your cortisol levels have come down,  algae, food therapy, meditation therapy, and other forms of therapies for thousand of years. And yes, I find that here taking this route actually costs more money, but it has been so worth it for me. I am not pushing the issue on this, I am just telling you that supplementation and amino acids can help. Plus these kind of practitioners use different kind of tests than conventional docs that are very helpful in detecting other issues that may contribute to sleep problems. I am sorry that you have tried some stuff that has not worked for you. But there is a protocol for everything. When it comes to sleep, I am learning that it takes a whole synergy of factors to induce sleep like the temperature in your room, the bed, pets, blue lights, mold, etc, and in my case, my husband as well :) He snores terribly and doesn't want to use his cpap, so he has moved to another room and he actually likes having his man cave, and I can sleep better. In fact, my parents slept separately for all their married life and had six children :)...Anyway there is a good piece of advice and tips on insomnia on this post written by Wilson; it is further down the line called "Some thoughts about managing insomnia" I suggest to check it out; hope you find some peace, rest, and much healing  :smitten:

I meant there is hope, don't lose hope! Sorry, sometimes my writing is not the best :-\

I meant to check your cortisol levels again because is not a matter of whether you think they are low.  Having low cortisol levels may be a http://www.benzobuddies.org/forum/Smileys/standard/smitten.gifsign of Addison's disease. But I don't want to get you more anxious. For one thing high anxiety which is my other second diagnosis by my Pdoc has been the culprit of bad sleep as well. It is best if one thinks that some symptoms are bad enough to render a visit to a doc, by all means do it, and rule out everything else. Do I make sense? Sorry again, I don't mean to babble  :smitten:

Passion flower,  lemon balm, valerian, skullcap, inositol, chamomile and believe me when I tell you how it seemed at times like putting down a hoarse...lol...but it was either that or loose my mind all together from lack of sleep...
