Miracle of 8.5 hours sleep

Recommended Posts

I thought I better post, y'all because I never feel like I get a break on this journey but I slept 8.5 hours last night which I believe is my record in post jump.  Can't believe it.  And I wasn't on a single thing - no OTC, no supplement.  I was in some pain and under stress with a sick beloved pet, etc.  I woke up after my usual 6 hours (and the toss n turn torture) but I went back to sleep somehow. (Oh yeah - I ate a banana with Advil in the middle of the night but but I do that alot)

It can happen.  I never, ever thought I could sleep without Lunesta, Ambien, Ativan, alcohol or something (40 year insomniac - maybe longer).  And I did.  You can, too.  Really.  OK - hope I haven't hexed it but I didn't want to use BB forum just for my complaints.  WBB

Many factors can affect sleep Im also an insomniac ! One is low blood sugar in the middle of the night, Our cortisol level starts to climb after midnight and even though I only get a broken 4 to 5 hours of crappy light sleep a night I use to always wake up around 1 to 2am. I found that the hunger feeling woke Me up and hat a consult with a sleep doc , this was around 20 years ago before My benzo experience . He said to have a complex carb snack with a hot glass of milk " I add L Tryptophan or take a 100mg capsule of 5-HTP with it and it usually allows Me to catch a couple more hours of sleep.

Some nights I take the melatonin with the hot milk with a half teaspoon of honey mixed in, that also works. Cant promise it will work for other folks but Im also sharing what works for Me. Insomnia sucks been dealing with it for around 20 years now and Im now 63. Worked in the EMS field and rotating crazy hours for 30 years mixed in with My genetic depressive illness which ensured Me eventual insomnia. Ok hope We all get some sleep and dont forget meditation it also can help calm the brain to varying degrees also avoid caffeine at ALL COST.

:yippee:

That has to feel fantastic! Once in a great while, I get 8.5 or even 9 hours, but I have to be a bit sleep-deprived to get it. Just to warn you, you may not sleep as well the following night, but don't get discouraged. The fact that you can sleep without any "help", means that your body has the capacity to do it, and will again, more and more.

Holly Molly, if I ever get that much sleep I would be ecstatic! There was a time when I used to sleep like that organically...so many moons away :( , but I am happy for you, and hopefully you will get more of this amazing snooze so much needed for healing!

I had my first 7 hour drug free night last night and I'm pretty excited about that. It was the usual light and broken stuff but it still feels pretty miraculous. I've been getting drowsier during the day/evening and sometime even sort of dozing off. I'd call it pseudo sleep but it wasn't happening at all even a couple of months ago. More often I'm thinking that I'm finally really showing signs of healing. So even we extreme insomniacs heal! :smitten:

Thanks Wanna and Blue. So many years of feeling like I couldn't and wouldn't make it preceded this. I still have my doubts at times (insomnia is such a bitch) but it's become a bit easier to press on despite them.

How is your sleep going?

Great to hear MT!

Just remember even though it feels incredible, it's normal and to be expected, right?

Here's to many more Buddy...  :highfive:

Me too MT--you've been through so much! I'm sure it will be up and down for a while, but the beginning of a trend that will just get better and better!
