The repetitive, looping songs that incessantly play 24/7 from the moment I wake to the moment I sleep is really making me insane and have no clarity of thought. It's been like this for over a month now and I see no hope that this symptom will go away. I can't even listen to music anymore without it getting stuck in my head (and I am a huge music junkie!). And it can be any song or jingle - even old Christmas carols. They just randomly pop up into my head and play OVER and OVER again. I don't know how to get rid of it or ride it out. Does anyone have this and what do you do to cope with it?

hi im sorry youre having this, i had it really severe in my second and third month, itgot less and less severe. then it stopped, but some days ago I had it again, but only for 2 days. Im sure it will disapear, you just have to cope and try and distract. I also had visions stucked in my brain if I had seen something on tv, and the same frequence kept playing over and over in my brain, it was really enoying and frigthening. I had to stop listening and watching tv for nearly two months.

I hope it will ease for you soon, stay strong  :smitten:

I so get what you are saying!!  Until someone posted recently I had no idea that there was a name for what was happening to me or that it was actually pretty common...any tune might get stuck, but most frequently for me it is part of a church service sung responsorial..

It brought me comfort to find out that it can be a sign of recovery and will lessen and disappear with time and recovery....it still happens frequently but much less than earlier in my recovery, and yes it can certainly drive me crazy....I now have the ability to redirect the song sometimes, and to be honest, I would rather have a looping song than a looping fear situation!!

I remember it was so very bad the first few weeks and I can't even remember the tune, but it was about some monster figure and something orange, LOL!!!  Kind of like that 60's song "one eyed, one (something) purple people eater" but not that song.

Anyway, it will fade and some ppl use headphones and a music device and sing/loop to that...

Best wishes...

I was only on benzos for a month but these looping songs stuck with me for like a 2 weeks god it was awful

terrible songs that i dont even like that were looping too i swear i listened to "my humps" by the blackeyed peas for like 3 days

WATCHA GONNA DO WITH ALL THAT JUNK ALL THAT JUNK INSIDE THAT TRUNK

IMA GET GET GET GETCHU DRUNK GET YOU LOVE DRUNK OFF MY HUMP

I see you are on prozac and cannot relate to this but psych meds can be nasty, but in all of these situations ive found if you can just keep your cool (which is alot easier said than done) that symptoms are less and that finding yourself some other form of audio stimulation could quite possibly (probably will) distract your mind towards that stimulation and away from the overstimulation symptoms (you hearing the songs)

(im pretty sure this is correct however i lack the knowledge of the physiological lingo behind this i would appreciate if someone could touch on things i missed or said wrong)

I'm a musician, producer and DJ... and I *definitely* know what you are talking about, to say the least.

I had a whole album in the works then I went into withdrawal... all the songs turned into nightmares that wouldn't stop repeating in my head days on end... then I couldn't even mix the album because it just started to become too tramatizing.. The album was for a record label and they kept asking when it would be done.. eventually I had to ditch the whole thing because it made me completely insane. People still ask when the album is coming out and I have to tell them, SORRY! It drove me insane and is NEVER coming out. Someone actually called me a DIVA (like Prince) about the situation, having no idea of the details.  :D It's impossible to explain to someone too lol.

So what I do now, to stop songs you don't want in your head from looping, LISTEN TO MORE MUSIC, NEW MUSIC.

You actually have to fight fire with fire on this one. Find songs you like, listen to GENRE'S of music you are not famillar. Go crazy on YouTube.

I found that CLASSICAL and AMBIENT are the two genre's that can totally wipe looping songs out of your head. That is because they're not based on repetition like pop music. So go on youtube and look up "chill ambient" or "chill classical playlist" and click around. It works!  8)

Still get this at 6 months out though it's lessened a lot. Sometimes it's gone completely and it seems to be mostly when I'm experiencing a wave. It's very annoying!

Im now 4 weeks off clonazepam and its My second time around. Both times I had this problem with looping thoughts and sounds. I did a lot of research on neurochemicals and their imbalance plus I had a chat with a real neuro scientist . He claims that it is most likely caused by an imbalance of neurochemicals in the brain and also during taper from a benzo into the acute stage. How long it last is different for everyone and is affected by many factors.

What worked for Me !  That depended on how bad it was, some times meditation would help or concentrating on a project whether it be art or something else. I also noticed that when I raised my serotonin level it got better . Just sharing what helped for me ! Believe it or not in some cases You can replace it with something else , maybe a thought . But yes it is annoying been there done that. Good luck !

Yes, I had them the first months off. They will go away. For me I think they went away around month 5 or 6.

Really tho, try listening to classical music.

Thanks for all the replies. I have tried to distract and distract but once I have no distraction, a tune plays randomly and I have to force myself to ride it or stray away. Even if I listen to another song, then that song gets stuck in my head, including classical music. My brain is just super fried right now... it's super super sensitive to every sound and stimulation. I will keep trying to distract, be an 'observer' to my thoughts and looping songs, and meditate. I thought I would never hate music but now I really do.

I'm very much into music! There were some times that I would get a song in my head that just wouldn't go away. Let's put it this way, it seems like  everything that I love could and has become a painful experience. Maybe you can  relate to this. I've always been one to get a song in my head. Sometimes trying to figure out how to play it or what I could add to it. Withdrawal just intensifies it!

I suspect that this is more apt to happen to those who are more musically oriented and inclined. I have a strong ability to "hear" music in my head, every little instrument and tone, not sure if that is the case for most people. I have had this happen several times, often when I have gotten ill, but especially during withdrawal.
