              Hi Folks,

I've been planning a taper regimen for awhile now, way too long in fact and want to proceed asap and  have the least amount of withdrawal symptoms as possible.

As mentioned in my other posts, I'm currently on 1.5 mg of Xanax a day,(a year at this amount, 2 total) and my dosing schedule is .25mg mid afternoon to keep the wd  symptoms at bay(inter-dose especially.) and the rest at bedtime......1 1/4 mg for the 1.5 daily total.

I've heard pros and cons from both side of the fence on dry or water and am in a quandry about which to do.

I know if I do the water, I'll make the dose soluble with vodka and pull 1ml daily from the mix and divide the doses.

If I go dry, I've heard a good way is to shave an accurate amount  with an emory board and my tabs are round and measure exactly 1/4" in circumference on a ruler and would be an accurate way to shave of 1/16 or 1/8 increments.

I know it sounds crazy, but a literally built up a masking tape wall at the beginning of the number on the ruler to lean the pill against to see if enough is shaved off.

My GP is against a water taper, but I would rather get advice from people who have been through it and so far my experience is DR's are good for prescribing and nothing else.

Any suggestions, dry route or water route would be warmly welcomed.

Both will work.  Liquid is simpler and less labor  intensive.

BTW, "...pull from the mix... is  a silly way to do it.  Make enough to last 10 days-2 weeks, then just measure out the amount for that days dose and drink it.

Everything works better when wet.

I've started using a dry cut method and switched to liquids and it's so much easier for me.  A water solution is super to store and it doesn't need to be refrigerated which may make it easier for you to hide.  Whatever you decide, either method works great and if you dry cut, you'll get the hang of it, too. 😊

Everything sounds good about the larger batch, except I'm taking care of my mom with Dementia(how I got on this stuff to begin with, no sleep) and I'm concerned she'll get her hands on it in some way.

I'll have to do it daily.

                                                                                                                                                                            Thanks

Do you not have the same risk/concerns about the tablets in the home?

Used both methods so far for my wife, and by far the liquid is easier, more accurate. less time consuming, and less stressful.

Builder, I keep the pills in my bedroom closet and out of sight................If it doesn't have to be refrigerated, maybe I could find a storage area out of reach.

It does NOT need to be refrigerated.  As I said, I really don't know why the liquid med would be any greater risk than a bottle of pills.
