Although i totally agree with being positive (obvioisly) when you are in the throes of hard core benzo withdrawal sometimes its all you can do to simply hold onto each passing moment to get thru the suffering. For months there were no words or actions i could take that would soothe the suffering. It was literally a beast that would only run its course through time and there were no magical words or ideals that would ease the suffering besides the clock. When i was experiencing hallucinations and terror in the dark of the night for 6 months i wish i could have recited some words to ease the horror but my mind was in survival mode rolling with one horror after another. Dont get me wrong-positive thinking is the only way to live life to deal with lifes challeges but when your brain is chemically altered by withdrawal and healing the damage the only thing that seems to work is time which is a real bitch.

Thanks for posting those, Theodore! I just read through them, and I definitely need to be telling myself most of these! I very much believe in the power of the mind and putting good thoughts/energy out into the world. I think they can definitely make a difference, no question.

Although when I was in severe acute, I barely was able to tell myself that i was going to live to see the next day, like Windwalker mentions. Even affirmations such as "all your heart tests show up fine, and you are NOT in late stage heart failure" wouldn't help convince my poor brain and body that it wasn't on its last legs. It was insane.

Now that I'm out of that phase (well, really, I'm heading back towards acute, I think), I'm better able to step back and realize how really powerful affirmations can be. Thank you for putting this positivity out there today! I definitely feel more positive having read them!

Hey theodore!

I didnt intend to sound like a dick on the above post. I just looked at your timeline and it seems you may have escaped some of the horror that other benzo users have experienced. Maybe because your relative short usage and lower dose compared to people who have been on 6-8 mg of ativan for years compared to a couple months. So sorry if i was dickish because im sure your suggestion will help many a benzo sufferer. Great job and great effort for trying to help your fellow man!

I made 3 or 4 of my own and repeated them for an hour I  felt like I took a benzo! Very happy after!

Wow. By saying your withdrawal was really only your negative thinking-that shows you luckily escaped any of the severe wd symptoms. Anyway-please post your own made up positive thinking sentences. It really could help some people.
