Benzo Dependant for about 2 or 3 years

I am committed to getting off benzos (Xanax).

It's been 2 or 3 years, can't really remember exactly when I began daily use.

I believe my dose has been about 2mg-4mg/day.  I'll usually take a full bar before work, but it's hard to resist the temptation to take a 2nd bar in evening most days.

Starting taper tomorrow, March 24th. 

I don't have Valium to switch to, but it's possible I can get some.  For now, I have divided up remaining Xanax tabs into a 16 week taper plan.  Ready for an uncomofortable, but hopefully manageable upcoming few months but I know I need to do it.

Just signing in mostly to read but when I have questions, any advice offered will be appreciated.

I am glad you found us today. The recommended reduction rate is 5 to 10 percent every two weeks. A gradual taper really is the best way to try to minimize symptoms.

 

You might like to check out The Ashton Manual it is an authoritative source on what to expect in withdrawal and recovery.  Dr. Ashton is an expert in the field.
