I know phenibut is not a benzo but after I quit a heavy phenibut habit cold turkey over 3 months ago I have full emotional numbness and anhedonia, i did benzos also but I think the phenibut is mainly what caused the emotional numbness/anhedonia.Im curious to see if anyone else had Paws from heavy phenibut abuse. Also how long did it take to go away or ease up?

Hey buddie,

Glad to have found your post.

I too am here because of Phenibut. I have full blown cog-fog, anhedonia, DP and DR from using phenibut only a handful of times in my entire life in late January/early February 2016. I used it probably less than 10x. My last dose I took was February 23rd, 2016.

So over 1 year off. I have symptoms so bad I lost my career and my ability to read, interact with others, socialize, perform tasks and pretty much everything else. Pretty sure I have permanent brain damage.

Wish you all the best.

Really less than 10 times and you got all those post withdrawal symptoms, that's really odd and sounds horrible. Were you getting off/ withdrawing from any drugs at the time you decided to try phenibut, or did you use gaba b drugs in the past? I doubt your damage is permanent though, symptoms of anhedonia can range from months to years to recovery its really just annoying but it goes away. For your other symptoms though l think they'll go away too. When they do go away message me I'll be glad to hear about your recovery.

how much mg Phenibut you took ??? and where you bought ??? Phenibut increase dopamine thats why you feel so anergic and the anhedonia.

Also Phenibut is not making any brain damage. Most withdrawal symptoms comes from downregulated Gaba B receptors. You can really ease it with Phenelzine,Desipramin,Tranylcypromine,Amitriptyline,Maprotiline upregulate Gaba B receptors and ease withdrawal strongy.

I would use 32,000mg of phenibut a day for about 8 months, and id buy it from liftmode.com. Ill look into some of those medications you recommend but my doctors wont prescribe Maoi's unfortunately. Thanks for your advice though.

There are guidelines on Phenibut not to use it two days in a row or more than 3 days per week. I couldnt tolerate it very well. I took 400mg for 3 days in a row  and ended up having a 2 week withdrawal. This should have been a prelude to my experience with benzos.

benzoquit123, you are very very lucky with your history. You CTed 10mg of xanax and your only symptom is "emotional numbness"? You probably dont need us.

It may help to read a fellow BB's posts "rob742au", he had completely WD from a benzo by using phenibut, unknown to him that it was just like using a benzo and he used phenibut in the wrong dosage because of mislabeling. Anyways, Phenibut is very similar to benzo it hits the gala receptors. Rob had to go back onto Valium to try to minimize the WDs from phenibut, and is now tapering off the Valium. Rob is seldom on this site so may not respond to PM but you may be able to read his posts and gain some insight.

I apologize to Rob in advance if I did not recall the facts of his story correctly. Rob was very kind and supportive towards me in the beginning of my recovery.

Good luck to you.

Where are you getting those antidepressants help gaba receptors?

Also I loved how oheobut made me feel at first but it messed me up eventually of course. I would take  ridiculous doses for long periods of time in attempt to find relief -of course I became desperate to escape that poison before long.

I am currently tapering off valium while still using my dose of phenibut of 20-30 grams a day.

It is normally about 15-20 grams a day. I have took that dose for about 2 years and tapered of that dose in 4-5 weeks while I was still using valium. Getting off phenibut was real easy compared to the valium. I did not even notice me taking less pheni becides being tired and getting these brainzaps. And the sleeping becomes way harder.

I did take some baclofen now and then after large drops. I personally think tapering of pheni is nit that much of a hasstle. Sadly I got back on the pheni during my first unsuccesful valium taper (there has beem one taken before the taper I am doing now, which seems to will be succesful).

I am now tapering off valium while still maintaining phenibut. The phenibut might keep me more sane but you cannot use pheni to mask the WD from valium while it is very easy to do the other way around.

Niw I am new here so I don't want to start a discussion which is not wanted. I don't want peope to start using meds they don't really need. But baclofen will make pheni WD a walk in the park while getting of baclo in itself is also fairly easy.

Hi BQ, how are you doing these days? Are you feeling better?

Hey JazzHands, I'm doing alright thanks for asking. I'm going on  5 months 21 days since I went CT from xanax/phenibut. At the moment I still have severe anhedonia/emotional numbness and cognitive issues but I have hope my brain will heal with time.

I'm only 1.5 months off of ct and I wake up with depression and anxiety. I have trouble falling asleep as well. And,  like you,  I have the loss of motivation. I really hope these go away.

JazzHands, your bad symptoms will go away. I read on your profile that you went cold turkey from xanax and phenibut. Just curious, what dose of phenibut were you taking? Also, 1.5 months is still early but you'll definitely start to feel better as time goes by.

I have no clue what dose because they came in capsules. I would take 1-2 caps daily at night for sleep. On the bottle it didn't say not to take it daily. I researched it after and someone said when they called the company, the company said there was 300mg in each cap. I feel like I'm just one of those ppl that were super sensitive to drugs.

Also didn't know phenibut was in these capsules. I bought it off an herbal site cuz it said it was good for sleep and had 5/5 stars. Its my fault for not researching.

First, I honestly don't understand how phenibut is even legal. To me in high doses phenibut feels like a mixture between a benzo, and an amphetamine. But, I use to take up to 32 grams of phenibut a day. Second, its crazy how health stores and other places can get away with selling phenibut as a natural sleep aid, nootropic, or other things. Phenibut is a drug that can cause serious acute withdrawals and protracted withdrawals in a very small amount of people, its crazy how its legal. JazzHands I'm going to take a guess and say you should feel fine within 3 months from the phenibut. When I went through my first phenibut withdrawal ever from 20 grams a day, it took 3 months for my brain to feel back to normal.

I feel like maybe the phen masked the WD symptoms of Xanax and now I'm dealing with mostly Xanax WD. That's my guess anyway. From what I've read a benzo WD takes longer, but different from person to person. This depression really sucks. I don't remember how I was before all this.
