In the thick of it

Hello, I'm so happy to find this site. I've been taking Ativan for at least 15 years. The prescription has been 1mg at bedtime, but I've cut it into quarters for many years taking .25mg. Not knowing how bad the withdrawals could be I quit cold turkey 9 days ago. I thought I had the flu, with a headache like never before. I finally realized I was going through withdrawal. My doctor never warned me about this drug. Knowing what others have gone through and have been successful is encouraging for me. I'm determined to get through this and feel better than ever. And then share my story with the world. I'm seeing my doctor this week, but I feel like I'm going to my drug dealer to get off drugs. Thank you for starting this group.

Hi DahliaL  Welcome to Benzobuddies

Sorry you are having a rough time!  How did you get on with your visit to the doctor?  Were you able to start back on a stable dose?  Stopping abruptly can be dangerous.    Are you familiar with the  Ashton Manual , it is an excellent resource for information about these medications and gives a lot of information about withdrawal/tapering.

Here is a link to the manual: Ashton Manual

A slow taper can help minimize withdrawal effects.  It is generally recommended to taper no more than 5-10% every 10-14 days.  This is a guideline and it is ok to adjust this schedule for  your own comfort.

We have a great community here of knowledgeable and friendly people who understand this process.  They will be willing to share their experience with you.  Feel free to ask questions so that members can respond

I will leave you with a few links:

If you would be so kind as to add a signature (history of meds/doses etc) it will help members give you relevant advice this link will show you how to”Create a signature”

Welcome aboard
