Help with Benzo Withdrawal

Hi, I have been on kolonipin for about two and half years now at .5mg twice a day I'm trying to get off this medicine completely because I have seen how it affects the body and I'm so mad at myself for taking them in the first place but I'm here so I need to take this on full force....does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to do this? I know to taper slowly and only by a little bit. I have went down to taking only .25 three times a day now but how long do I stay on that? And when do I go down? Anything I could take in place of one of the doses when I do go down to .25 twice a day? I was off for about 3 weeks and it was hell on earth I tried but I couldn't do it and my doctor thinks that you can get off of this in two months...not true at all..is there anything natural that would help this? Thanks

Welcome to the forum!  We're glad to have you as a new member.

You'll find plenty of information and support here.  Our members have gone through all aspects of withdrawal, and you're likely to find  people who understand what you're going through and can tell you what has worked for them.  For those who are currently tapering, we suggest reducing no faster than 5-10% every 10-14 days, and some taper even slower than that.  One exception: very short-term users of a few weeks or less may be able to taper faster than that.

Having some withdrawal symptoms is normal, especially near the end of a taper and for a month or so after discontinuing the medication.  The most common symptoms are anxiety and insomnia, but these and other symptoms are temporary and will go away in time.

Here are a few links you may find useful:

Withdrawal Support Board

The Ashton Manual is an authoritative source on what to expect in withdrawal and recovery.  Dr. Ashton is an expert in the field.  She describes and explains withdrawal symptoms in Chapter III, and there is also a section with withdrawal/taper schedules.

welcome from me too. the good thing is the majority of people can get off of them, at least the first time, with few problems. You are right, tapering is the smart thing to do to get off. The recommended reduction rate is 5 to 10 percent every two weeks. Let us know how we can support you best. we are here for you night or day. we have members from all over the world and their collective wisdom is enormous.
