New member introduction

I've been on clonazepam since 2003. As ive been on it so long, I doubt it's doing anything except keeping me from withdrawing. When I was running low (between providers) I just took one every two to three days. I developed terrible withdrawal symptoms. I thought my thyroid medication was out of wack. My heart rate wouldn't ever get below 110, my hands were shaking terribly and I slept 2-3 hours a night.  I have to work and sleep and function so I need to get off them as gently as possible, however long it takes. My provider thinks I should just be able to half my dose for a few days, then stop. I get it it, she said she's used to tapering people on about 2mg 3X a day. She said I can cut it down every three days and safely avoid a seizure. But I need to more than avoid a seizure. I have to function. She prescribed me 60 .5mg with refills so I can do this however I want. But she hasn't really explained how to do it. I don't care if it takes a year or more. I just want to start getting off. Thanks!

Hi Skippygirl  Welcome to Benzobuddies

Withdrawal can be tough but you are going to be okay, you can do this I promise you.  We have/had members who worked throughout the withdrawal process.  Tapering slow can help to minimize withdrawal effects.  It is generally recommended to taper no more than 5-10% every 10-14 days, you can go slower,  this is a guideline and it is ok to adjust this schedule for your own comfort.

We have a great community here of knowledgeable and friendly people who understand this process.  They will be willing to share their experience with you.  Feel free to ask questions so that members can respond

Are you familiar with the  Ashton Manual , it is an excellent resource for information about these medications and gives a lot of information about withdrawal/tapering.

Welcome. The best way to minimize symptoms is by a slow gradual taper. magrita gave you the recommended reduction. I think it you should be much more doable. you found out the hard way that trying to reduce to quickly can cause some pretty miserable symptoms. Let us know how we can support you best. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
