I've slowly been tapering off of unisom over the past 6 months. I used to take one full 25mg pill and I'm down to probably about 5-10 mg at most a night. I'd like to jump off of it.

I'm currently 15 months off benzos and I really feel that it's hindering my healing at this point in the game. It was helping me with the sleep, but now it's not making a difference. I'm also itchy everywhere. I think it's because I'm at tolerance with it or it's simply not working for me in general.

Has anyone experienced a withdrawal from an antihistamine? What should I expect? I know I'm going to be itchy, because I already am. Maybe some rebound insomnia. I don't think it will be that bad though (compared to benzos). Also if you did experience this type of withdrawal, how long did it last for you?

Thanks for your help!

Antihistamines do not create dependency, so there is no "withdrawal" effect from stopping.

There may however, be a return of original sxs, or some rebound.

Ok, that makes sense. Itching is coming back...had that at the beginning of benzo withdrawal. Thanks for the response!

Yeah, if possible, I'd just stop the Unisom cold turkey altogether for 2-3 weeks. That should get rid of any tolerance you've built up, then you should be good to take it again.

Ok thank you! I'm going to try and not take it anymore. I'm over taking meds. If I really have to, I'll give in. I think I'm strong enough at the moment. Thank goodness.  :smitten:

I'm not sure it's withdrawal, but I am having a lot of itching going on right now. I also have some nasty depression that was much better before I jumped off the unisom. I believe it works on serotonin and also histamines (obviously). I'm also sneezing left and right. I didn't do this last week...spring or not.

This could very well just be a wave from benzos, but the timing seems incredibly aligned with my anitishitamine jump date. Either way, I'm hoping these issues subside in the next couple of weeks. I'm going to hold strong. I can get through this.
