What Liquid will Ativan Dissolve in to Titrate? My Dr Won't Give me Valium

I need help in dissolving ativan in order to create a solution. I've read many posts on here, and it seems that most people just switch to valium...my Dr. is an ass and refuses to do that and wants me to cut down 50% for 2 weeks and then go cold turkey.

I've read you can dissolve it in alcohol, in 151 Proof alcohol, in milk and in water. Which is it? Which is best? Then I read that even thought Ativan will break down in a solution, the active ingredients don't disperse evenly, which would not work with titration.

So I'm very confused.

I have been on Ativan 1.5 mg for 15 years, prescribed by the doctor for insomnia. I've cut down to .5 mg over the past 4 months, and only the last taper caused me bad withdrawals, which was when I tapered from .75 to .5mg.

So I'm thinking that maybe as the dose gets lower, the symptoms get worse. Is that true?

I want to detox myself slower, at a 10% rate every 2 weeks, but need to know how to do it properly.

My withdrawal symptoms over the past 6 weeks are as follows:

nausea, lightheaded, extreme fatigue, headache, eyeache, flu symptoms, muscle tightness, numbness in head, feet and hands, heart palpitations pretty frequently, brain fog, ringing in the ears that I still have 6 weeks after my last taper, sound and light sensitivity, muscle pain, panic attacks

Please help as I will run out of pills if I don't start to taper. The doctor wants me to take .25 for 15 days and then 0. I know that's not going to work for me. He won't give me any more pills.

I have a supply of about 90 ( 1 mg pills) that I haven't used, as I've saved them from past prescriptions.

You can dissolve it in alcohol (vodka, or other distilled beverage) propylene glycol, or milk.  You can NOT dissolve it in plain water, but you can dilute with water after it is dissolved in alcohol or PG.

The alcohol does not need to be 151; 80 proof is sufficient.  With vodka or PG use 2ml for each mg.

Once dissolved, it can be diluted with water.  A final concentration of 1mg:10ml or 1mg:100ml makes calculating cuts and doses very simple.

There is also a Rx liquid ativan available in the US.

Hi, when I first joined BB I was also at a loss as to which taper to choose and how to do it. Thanks to Builder I found out about the liquid Lorazepam made by the Roxane Laboratories. It is a 2mg concentrate and there are 30mls in a little bottle. My Pdoc also didn't want to switch me to Valium, and I agreed with her. It's been two months since I started a daily tapering of 0.003 ml (which is 10%) of 1mg Lorazepam. I am exactly today at 7.88 mls. It is going to be a slow taper for me, but so far this is going okay. At the beginning I did have some sxs like headache pressure, tinnitus, benzo flu, depression, but they lasted maybe on and off for a week. I attribute this maybe because the change from pill form to liquid had to do something with this or maybe I was not doing my mix correctly or who knows; in addition, I was dosing twice a day, and I was not refrigerating my diluted mixture. So I did some changes,  I started being more careful with my measures (being super clean with syringes), started dosing three times instead and began refrigerating my mixture (to me it tastes so much better now and this way and is more refreshing). So far I am very functional, no more bothersome sxs. Whatever approach you choose, definitely doing a slow, liquid tapering works better (at least for me). However, now that you are having all those sxs you may have to hold on until you stabilize. Last time it took me four months to stabilize in order to finally realize that I needed a different approach to my tapering. It is no fun going through withdrawal sxs while tapering; although  some people have gone through it and lived to tell their stories. I don't know if when I finish my taper I won't have any symptoms, but I hope that I will be strong enough to recover smoothly Good luck to you, and hope you get better and finally be done and over this ordeal that we are suffering
