Does anyone have a histamine intolerance? After taking hydroxyzine, I'm having a ton of sxs that are pointing at a histamine intolerance - the nausea is worse than ever, chest pain, palpitations, wicked blood pressure fluctuations, sensitive eyes (like the light outside is too much), anxiety is up and I'm crying a lot.

I started a small dose of methylfolate (400mcg) but this was all prior to starting that.

I started my DLMT but holding today to give a bit of a break. I'm not feeling like I did during withdrawal - it's different.

I'm starting a low histamine diet but I honestly don't believe it's that.

Dad24 - all of those symptoms are my WITHDRAWAL symptoms, and they all came on as I got lower in my dose. You are around the dose (in my experience and opinion) where you are going to see more symptoms, and you're going to have to do your best to white knuckle through them.

I had extreme histamine-like reactions when I was in tolerance (face and upper chest and arms would flush horribly, couldn't breathe, etc.) I think they were actually withdrawal now, BUT - I would feel MUCH better when I took allergy medicine. I also now turn beet red and flush if I drink ANY alcohol.

I think they are withdrawal symptoms. Extreme light sensitivity - check. Starting to cry more - check. Extreme terrifying anxiety - check. Big time blood pressure fluctuations - check. Palpitations/chest pain - yep.

Keep going and know that these symptoms WILL pass. I'm down to .375 now (making too big cuts, I'm sure) and after a week of feeling awful, am actually feeling different today. (less chest tightness/anxiety, less stomach pain/agitation, tinnitus a little less, hearing/seeing things a little more clearly. That will likely change by this afternoon, of course.

The longer you are on these lower doses, your brain and body will start to recover more and more. That is what i think is happening with you.

I just hate to blame withdrawal for everything when the sis coincided with stopping the hydroxyzine - which I had terrible side effects from. There is a rebound effect from antihistamines as well. And with the micro taper I shouldn't feel this - I've literally gone from .882mg to .854mg. No drastic cuts to cause issues.

All I know is that I got what I thought to be severe histamine issues when I was in tolerance. I would actually feel better when I took Claritin D. I didn't notice anything when I took hydroxyzine because I was already feeling so badly anyway. If anything, it sometimes HELPED me in that it would lighten up some panic attacks. But only sometimes. It's really hit or miss. I don't take it regularly though. Sometimes I can take 100 mg and I feel like it doesn't do anything. I can take it during the day and it won't make me at all drowsy. In fact, I've taken neither my hydroxyzine OR my mirtazapine the past 2 nights in a row and I slept 8 hours (the first time in a loooong time I've done that.) Maybe that's why I feel "better" this morning. Although as soon as I open my eyes, stomach pain/nausea and anxiety. Hydroxyzine is definitely not something I'd want to take everyday, but a lot of folks do, for various conditions.

Obviously - what works for some, doesn't work for others. And what works sometimes, doesn't work ALL the time.

I do think you're right in that the less medication you're on, the better! I can't wait to be free of all of it!

You went from .882 mg to .854 over how many days?

7 days. I'm decreasing .004mg per day.

I think that's a little fast, especially if you are starting with symptoms.  It takes me about 20 days, or more, to cut that much, but I feel good.

I agree with twinkle, your symptoms all sound like w/d.

I would try going slower and see how you feel.

I think there's a certain time frame for suffering all of us have coming off the meds that's in that 2 year plus or minus window and you've tapered ahead of where your body actually is right now. I tried holding at doses when I was too far ahead of the time it required for my body to catch up to my too low dose. It's a balancing act for most. When I was in your spot is when I updosed from .75mg of K and crossed to 20mg of Valium the Ashton method, which took a month and during which I stabilized to a liveable place. Then cut and hold and now liquid titration. So that was and has been my best path from trial and error thus far from a similar original dose of K for 9 years.. Feel better man.

dad you mentioned methylfolate, I and others I know had severe reactions to methylfolate. If you go to merry joyous and free. Com to the video room there's a video titled Mthfr (that's an abbreviation for gene mutations) that video explains why some people cannot take methylated b vitamins. I almost had to go to er after taking it for four days. It's explains in the video the glutamate reaction behind it. Some can tolerate it many others cannot. I'm not saying this is your case but be very careful with methylated vitamins. I've taken hydroxyzine on and off for over 20 years, at times yearly every day. I never have had any rebound anxiety from it but that's me. We are all different, and some can't take things others can. I would strongly advise watching that video. All your symptoms I have and they are withdrawal from cutting too much. I hope you feel better.
