Benadryl?

I'm sorry if this has been brought up before but is Benadryl safe to use to help fight insomnia? Just want to make sure it won't harm my recovery. Thanks.

Smiths...lost of people use benedryl while tapering and recovering to assist sleep so unless you have an allergy to it, you should be fine. However if you use it daily you may find that tolerance builds and it's not as effective, so try to use it as needed.

I agree with BlueSwan. Also, my psychiatrist who happens to be a holistic doctor as well told me that it was okay to take Benadryl once in a blue moon; abusing it/daily will dry up the sinuses and one would be prone to get sinus infections. I started my tapering two months ago, and she suggested I started taking amino acids and some supplements. I have to say that so far I feel them working on me. I have had some withdrawal sxs (headpressure, benzo flu, muscle spasm, depression/anxiety/insomnia), but I have been able to withstand them fairly well; except the other night when I had to resort to Benadryl because I am going lower in my tapering and also had a very stressful week; and, my brain would not calm down to fall asleep. Unisom is another option that works for me, but I also take it occasionally. By all means I am not advocating amino acids/supplementation; but for me, it is the best option that is helping tame my suffering (I have other health issues). I truly suggest if anyone decides to try amino acids, one should consult with an expert first. I thank God that I am very functional and hopeful that I will beat this and so will you  :smitten:

Hi All,

I want to try Benadryl to get some much needed sleep but really don't want to feel any more loopy then I already do from my w/d symptoms. I am so sensitive to medication. Worry and fear is such a big thing for me right now....
