Quitting Cigarettes compared to benzos

Recommended Posts

im quitting cigarettes today and if anyone who has done both which you would say is worse by how much.

Im imagining the benzo withdrawals would be worse and kicking this nicotine habit will be easy with this newly gained strength but i wanted a second opinion

After you quit benzos, it makes quitting anything else look like a walk in the park. I quit several years ago, and have always been able to "just quit" with no symptoms. My hubby would became almost homicidal (kidding, but not really) and NOTHING worked for him UNTIL he started vaping. Then it was easy!

i have been wondering the same, really need to quit smoking.

I had switched from smoking to vaping but picked up a cigarette when I hit tolerance. After about 2 weeks went back to vaping and never even missed real cigarettes. Been off cigs for about a year and it has been fairly easy. Working on cutting back the nicotine in the vape juice, but not sweating over it.

I'm trying to cut down and eventually quit. Was doing well and then I am back to too many!

Quitting nicotine was child's play compared to tapering benzos, in my experience..  it would be a great thing for you all to do, in order to get rid of those toxins from cigarettes when you're trying to heal..

I found it much harder to quit the ciggies and I still have craving but I feel Oh so much better and healthier. I'm glad I got rid of that poison. And my sleep got so much better.

It's tough but agree with others... It's nothing compared to benzos.

Just have to get through that first week or two.

Things that helped me get through it:

Meditation

Distraction

Chewing Straws, gum, toothpicks, etc

Keeping hands occupied  (those small chinese balls work well)

I did fall off the wagon a couple times later on but fortunatley completley lost the taste for it so. Also noticed how much i smelled like an ash tray after smoking. Yuck! Totally repulsed by it now.

I quit cigarettes cold turkey after 20 years, was a walk in the park. You can't compare benzo withdrawal to quitting cigarettes. Benzo withdrawal can cause permanent neurological damage it can maim people. Quitting cigarettes is easy and anybody who can't quit has no will power.

Simple answer is benzo's are worse. I just quit a month ago and I dont have cravings or nicotine withdrawl sxs anymore so Im pretty sure I'm done with ciggarettes. If your quitting today, then Ill share my experience of the last few weeks since quitting so you can compare for yourself.

Quit Nicotine 1 month ago:

- 2-3 days constant craving, no concentration, stupor, endless looping thoughts about little annoyances/old memories

- Week 1: Threw me into a WAVE -> remergence of bad belching, bloating and benzo belly generally. Like my ability to process food was paralysed. 1 week of headaches, TERRIBLE INSOMNIA returned. limited to 1-2 hours a night broken and not 'deep' sleep.

-week 2: wave calmed down, all sxs from week 1 but turned down 50%

week 3: returning to baseline of benzo craziness, now sxs are more familiar and am pretty sure nicotine wd gone and its back to regular benzo w/d.

The KEY thing is the nicotine wd sxs are really manageable in the context of all Id been through over last few months. My RESILIENCE WAS HIGH so i pushed through the nicotine wd sxs pretty well. I think it would have been a nightmare if id done this anyother time because I would of felt miserable. But given how benzo WD had affected me, my attitude was kinda like "meh" *shrug*, to these sxs.

In retrospect, very glad I did it as it was easier now. I warn you though I felt like hell again for 2-3 days so if your not in a semi decent place with the benzo wd, Id recommend not pushing it too fast. I went CT and no nicotine replacement therapy. Just nothing. I smoked approx 12-15 a day. id worked myself down to 5-7 a day before CT.

Hope this expierence helped

Benzos are worse of course but I sure did have a tough time quitting the ciggies. I would still sell my mother for just one.

That's pretty harsh - just go to the 7/11.

I miss cigarettes to this day.  I think cigarettes brought me more joy than klonopin.

everyone has willpower -- you are not special. you need a kick in the butt to get the willpower going. benzo gave you the kick. tolerance withdrawal gave me the kick (prior to that i was under the impression that i have no willpower).

"anybody who can't quit has no willpower" is actually a self-referential proposition bereft of meaning. it's equivalent  to, "only those who quit cigarettes are capable of quitting." everyone is capable of quitting -- just that for some it is a health scare that precipitates it, for some benzo withdrawal and for some, unfortunately, a fatal illness.

I'd say cigarettes are tougher exactly because of how easy it is to get and use them.

Nicotine is also the most addictive drugs in the world. I'd say it was not a fun experience at all. Tapering my benzos so far (while a very dangerous drug) was easier for me than the ciggies. I still and am dying to have one when I wake up every day. Then begins the gum chewing.

I don't know much about vaping. I am  wondering whether it has nicotine or not. Either way, I would not like to breath in hot water.
