hello everyone, is anyone on,or ever been on buspar? ive been on it a little over a month and the side effects are aweful, also i was prescribed hydroxyzine to take for panic attacks as needed, but i have not yet, has anyone had experiance with these?

I was given hydroxyzine at the ER. It helped my heart rate and panic attack almost instantly. Be advised it knocks you out.. to the point I felt like I was tripping on drugs. Haha,  but it makes you really really tired!

i havnt taken one yet,i was worried it would make me panic more before it took effect lol. but when i wake up at night having a panic attack, i automaticly reach for a sliver of xanax, i have to stop doing that. next time i will take the hydroxyzine since dr gave that to me for panic.i cant even break the dose in half because its a capsule!

You'll be fine! The ER recommended it because it's non-addicting and safe. It really does help me, but I only use it for emergencies. My heart rate was 185 in the ER and within 10 minutes it was 70.

Hydroxyzine is hit or miss with me. I've had it knock back a serious panic attack one day, then the next day, I can take 100 mg and don't feel any different. I'm in a REAL bad attack as I type this (which is why I hopped on the forums) and am getting ready to knock back 50 mg, so I'll report back in an hour on what it does for me this time.

EDIT: an hour after taking 50 mg of hydroxyzine, back to report it has done NOTHING. Zip, nada, zilch. ugh.

I've taken both buspar and hydroxyzine in the past. Buspar was quite helpful during a period of constant anxiety, and I don't recall side effects. It is not a strong drug. I tried hydroxyzine for insomnia and it was not helpful, but I can see it might be very helpful for anxiety. It's only really meant for now and then use, after a short period tolerance builds up quickly and it won't help. Both drugs would be much preferable to using a Xanax IMO.

Have you taken a hydroxyzine yet? Like you I was prescribed it as needed for anxiety while tapering and at 25 mgs am pretty hesitant on taking it.

Hydroxyzine can take the edge off, but like others have said it can be hit or miss to help with sleep. It totally knocks some people out. Usually it only gives me a few hours extra sleep. It's not an addictive drug like a benzo. It's similar to other antihistamines like Benadryl.

In a way, that is good to know. I might save it for my worst days. If it just kind of takes the edge off, I am in. As needed. I make sure now to not only ask docs, pharmacists, but research for myself.

I also was given both drugs, I took the Buspar and had bad anxiety..bad. The Hydroxine was much better for me. Used occasionally it takes the edge off and does help at night with sleep.

Both drugs are generally prescribed by primary care doctors and are relatively safe, nonnarcotic and non habit forming. I flushed (not literally) the Buspar and use the Hydroxine once or twice a week as needed. It is very mild, for me at least.

I'm feeling better without the buspar for sure, it made me way worse,  I've got to try the hydroxyzine because I just lowered my xanax again.

I was rx'd Buspar when I originally cold turkeyed from Ativan before this reinstatement for proper taper. It didn't help, off course I was in heavy acute at the time. I do have the bottle around still though. I think the next time I am having an extremely bad day I will try the hydroxyzine. Even if it does not make me sleep but just softens the edges, that's a positive!

i have not taken it yet, mine are 25 mg also, and they are a capsule. i have just cut my xanax again,so if i have a panic attack i will most likely take one.

Mine is the tablet form. I asked my doctor for it as if I find it to sedative I could split it. Also since tolerance could build up fast I thought I might even start by taking a quarter or half as needed. Of course, if I am ever brave enough to try it.

Everyone please don't be scared to take hydroxyzine. I'm paranoid about meds and I can tell you it does help panic attacks. Just don't take it every day and you'll be fine as tolerance builds up.

That's what my doctor told me too. Worst case scenario... I take it and it doesn't work. I kind of think of hydroxyzine as a rescue medication...something Ativan should have been. I get so scared whenever a doctor scripts me something. Ativan gave me tinnitus and hearing loss.

i may take it tonight, i can def tell i lowered my xanax again, and storms are coming in again, ugh..

Storms hit us last night too...Seems like a weekly basis. Went all winter here in Missouri with little winter precip. The last month it seems so much rain and storms. Before benzos I loved storms...Now I hate them because they throw off my sleep schedule and loud rumbles of thunder. Did you take the hydroxyzine?

That's a smart plan, take only in emergencies. That's what mine is around for. Plus, only take it if you don't have to drive or do anything that requires a lot of attention somewhere after. It will knock you out. Not even to a sleep, unless you want to, but a temporary like high feeling. It's basically Benadryl on steroids
