Klonipin taper while on lamictal

I've been on Clonopin for 23 years for agoraphobia and panic disorder and I take 3 mg each night I managed to cut down to 2 3/8mg and I also take 200mg Lamictal and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience  taking both medications while tapering off Klonopin? I plan to taper at 1/16 of a milligram every three weeks. I had been decreasing by 1/8mg and I think that was too much at on once. In addition to anxiety I have developed intense anger.

From my understanding Clonopin And lamictal address anxiety from opposite ends- one works with GABA and the other works with glutamine so I'm wondering if I should try to taper both of them at the same time? I believe I've reached my tolerance level.  Also I've been diagnosed with autoimmune disease but is unidentifiable what is specifically (lupus type auttoimmune) I've been doing some research and there are many cases where these types of autoimmune diseases are caused by medication such as Clonopin and symptoms of baby as soon as one is tapered off so I'd really love to Get off the klonipin.

Hi Elysan-

I moved your question to the other meds section since there might be more people here with lamictal experience. I dont think it would interfere, but I have never taken it myself. I was on both lexapro and valium and tapered lexapro first. I wouldnt have wanted to do two at a time because the wondering about where each symptom comes from would have made it even worse.

Hello Elyasan,

I was on both, just for me the benzo was Ativan, and am still on the Lamictal.

I am in protracted withdrawal (27 months off the benzo but still will horrible symptoms) and am still on the Lamictal and I often wonder, what is withdrawal and what is possibly the Lamictal? I wanted to wait until I am something like much better before starting the Lamictal taper but that is, for any reason, not happening.

I actually think it is a wise idea to taper these both at the same time! Normally, if we would talk about a benzo and and antidepressant, I would say no and definitaly taper one after the other but since these are two meds that work on the two big guys (the GABA and the Glutamine) I really think it is good to taper both at the same time (what I mean with at the same time is make a reduction in one....then wait for some weeks to stabilize...then make a reduction of the other one...wait again and so on). Again, I would never suggest a taper of two meds at the same time but this is the exception. I so badly wished I did it that way but I didn't and am now stuck on the Lamictal.

All the best for you!!

The woman that owns this site tapered several meds, the last ones were the benzo and the Lamictal....both at the same time. I think you can find a lot of good information there!!!

I'm tapering xanax while on lamictal.  I don't plan on tapering the lamictal any time soon.  I stopped prozac and zyprexa ct with the first cut of this taper and felt an immediate lifting of depression and anxiety.  They have not returned and I don't want to change anything - can't risk a return.  I've been taking lamictal for 10yrs at this pont and did drop from 300mg to 200mg a few months ago without issue (I thought it was causing RLS but it may have been the taper??).  So, anyway, I'm staying on 200mg as long as my mood remains good.
