Short term Ativan

In February I was prescribed Ativan 1mg. Was told to take 2 at night and 2 during the day as needed.  I never took that much. Anyhow, 2 weeks ago on a Friday I wasn't feeling very anxious and thought I would try to sleep without it. I did, I slept for 6 hours. The next day I decided not to take it either. The next day I started feeling dizzy, I did not think about the Ativan at first but then I realized that was the only thing that changed. I did some research and decided I didn't want to take it anymore. Two days later I was hit with horrible depression. I thought it might be the Ativan so I took 1/2 one and sure enough I felt better. That week I decided to just take small amounts to keep the depression away. The next Saturday I didn't take any and felt the horrible depression again. I took a little that day. That was 7 days ago today. I haven't taken any sense. I have depression, burning on my scalp, headache, and my legs are weak. Is this really from

The Ativan?  I feel like I took so little for such a short amount of time. If it is, does anyone know how long this will last?

Thank you

Hi Needsomeonetotalkto.  Welcome to BenzoBuddies.

Sorry you're feeling bad.  Benzodiazepine withdrawal and recovery can be pretty alarming, but it is temporary.  My best guess is that you're in the worst of it now and it should start to get easier with a little more time.  You were only on it for a month or so and a fairly quick taper like you did would have been recommended.  No harm done, it will just take some time for the symptoms to calm down and disappear.  Sounds like it's a good thing you decided to quit taking them before a deeper dependence set in.

Here's a link to our Post Withdrawal Support where you can post for support from the wider membership.

When you have a chance, I highly recommend that you take a look at The Ashton Manual, which is an authoritative source on what to expect during withdrawal and recovery, authored by Dr. C. Heather Ashton, who is an expert in the field. It provides a great deal of information that can be very reassuring during any stage of this process, including a list of common symptoms with helpful explanations on the reasons for their existence.

Welcome. It doesn't take long to develop a dependency. It an take as little as two weeks. I don't know how long you have been taking them but if it more than several weeks a taper should be done.

I was taking them for 3 weeks. I haven't taken it in 8 days. I then took Lexapro this past Wednesday. It made me feel weird so I didn't take anymore and I still feel weird from it 4 days later. I don't know what is causing what. I feel so sad because my life has been so bad the last 8 weeks. It all started with anxiety and depression brought on by an antibiotic. I was then prescribed Ativan

Then Lexapro. I just want all of this out of my system and to go on with my life. All my desires are gone and I'm never happy. I feel like I haven't been myself in so long. And the hardest part is that I have a 7 year old daughter who has to see me like this.
