Normal tremors vs Impending Seizure

This is probably a stupid question, but is there a way to differentiate between shaking and tremors being a normal WD symptom vs when it might be a sign of a possible seizure?

It's such a scary symptom and the only one that truly causes me more anxiety. Everything else, while uncomfortable, I am able to mentally cope bc I know it's just my body adjusting and resetting itself.

I tremble a lot! Every day I'm pretty certain most do and its just another crappy WD symptom. Doubt it means a seizure is coming on.

I was wondering the same thing!just too scared to ask,but it is scary!

I.e. Been told that as long as some degree of benzo is in our system...the chances of seizure are basically nil. But I'm a worry wart (hence the prescription of Xanax to begin with!).  :'(

Unless you CT off of a high dose, there is almost zero risk of seizure.

Thank you, Builder!! Such a comfort to read...I've been obsessing about this potential WD symptom.

I'm having these same tremors and shaking attacks. You are so ready get it so scary. How long do they usually last I'm at a low dose of 2.5 Valium and micro tapering. I want to contour tapering, but this symptom is holding me back. I should I continue my taper while feeling this way? They do make you feel like your going to have a seizure. Thx for talking about this.

I found propranolol  to be very effective at controlling tremors.

All good questions, Hope02. Maybe someone with experience that has had this symptom and come out on the other side will comment because I'm in the same boat as you and not sure if we just plow through it or hold until it gets better. I imagine there are going to be continuous symptoms the lower we taper and won't ever be totally symptom free until it's all over and time has done its work in healing us completely.

Builder, I just got prescribed that so that's encouraging. I'm on a lower than average dose of 20 mg tho. If you don't mind me asking, what mg is effective for you? It says an average dose is typically 40 mg...

20 mg PRN.  I think I normally only took one dose per day.  I'm sure I never took more than 2 doses in one day.

Hey Builder, Are you aware if its similar to clonidine?

A google was unclear, -just to avoid taking them together... possibly cos they do similar things???

Ty..

When my sx are bad I would make a good concrete vibrator, Though it does settle for long periods. Asides from my Abdomin, -thats fairly constant...

Im guessing its the reduction of the muscle relaxant component of benzos... -thus typical WD...

Fine motor skills in my hands are a problem too...

Cantfly, it's not really like clonidine but can lower BP. My doc said it is helpful in reducing tremors (like Builder experienced) and can also help with palpitations. Doesn't really help with the regulation of body temp like clonodine did for me during prescription opiate WD. I wish it would help with body temp as I currently either pour sweat (my most annoying symptom) and then will suddenly be freezing.

Thanks FBW... -I just found a some studies and comparisons online, and got side tracked as usual...

So all good Builder, -I know u get busy... ty.

FBW, the opiates screwed with my apparent temp too... 5 blankets or no blankets... drove the nurses nuts... But my actual temp was fairly steady, a little low at 36.2ish... -unless it was around 42... which got me special attention... lol

I think your sweating will clear up a bit as things settle, well it did for me...just... If i get too hot, -thats it...

I hope the sweating calms! I literally wake up drenched and it is so miserable...I'm constantly washing sheets and pajamas at the moment.  :-\

What's weird is my dr actually prescribed the propranolol to take with the Xanax when I was first prescribed the benzo bc the anxiety alone was causing tremors. I am now using it as a WD tool and tapering on my own (except the help of y'all) bc my dr doesn't even want me to stop the Xanax. He says I haven't been on it long enough to become dependent...yeah right.  :idiot:

That's a whole different soap box I won't get on right now. It's just shocking how unaware some doctors are about the true nature of benzos.

I'm ten weeks Ct off klonopin and I wake up with tremors. My nurse practitioner says I'm out of woods for seizures and I'm a few anti seizure meds. But I still worry non the less

OMG, why did you CT? I've actually toyed w the idea bc I've done it successfully in the past after using insane amounts of Xanax recreationally. I've used them as prescribed now but think I've kindled bc even just tapering has brought about a host of symptoms I've never experienced before quitting CT. It's crazy what this stuff can do to us.

My current provider upon first appointment cut me once I had told her I had grown a tolerance. I had wanted to come off of them but had no idea I had to taper. I agreed having no idea what hell I was in for.  My punishment for being honest!
Posted
Wow, that's unbelievable. So just bc you had reached tolerance, maybe the dr thought you were drug seeking and pulled the script all together. I'm so sorry but you're surviving and that shows your strength. Like I said, I've wanted to CT bc I get so frustrated and just want to get it over with and face the music. But I have to function...I have 20 month old son I care for by myself all day and just can't risk being debilitated, or God forbid, a seizure about cessation. I think my dosing has been low enough that a seizure is highly unlikely. But I'm sure you know, it's easy to imagine the worst when in the throes of WD.

You're probably right regarding whether she thought I was drug seeking or not. I have a huge file full of psychiatric incidents as well as a history of drug use ten years ago. There is a huge opiate problem where I live too and I think it's easy for people like me to fall into a category of assumed drug addicts.

I feel for you having a toddler through a taper. I have a seven year old and I was unable to care for him a few months ago when this all started. Thank god for my fiancé and his dad stepping up. I couldn't imagine if he were a little baby though. Never would have been able to do it. Go at your own pace and do what's best for you and your family.

This has been the hardest 70 days of my life and I've learned I'm a lot stronger than I thought I was. I just wish there had been another kinder softer way that could have been revealed to me! Ha! I guess that's not how it works!

Fearful but willing: I hate this symptom the most I'm 60mg and it doesn't seem to help.
