Getting ready to titrate Klonopin

Hi there,

I've been on Klonopin since April 2015.  I was polydrugged with it along with 3 other meds shortly after attempting a Lyrica taper following doctor's orders on how to taper the Lyrica.  I experienced extreme anxiety, restlessness, and insomnia during my Lyrica taper so much so that I had to stop and hold the dose.  However, when I informed my prescribing doctor about what I was experiencing, she said it was impossible to be withdrawal symptoms.  I sought two more doctors' opinions, and they also dismissed my experience as withdrawal from Lyrica.  I ended up falsely being diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and prescribed zoloft, klonopin, and 2 other drugs.

I didn't realize until many months later that the doctors were wrong.  Thus I've been on quite the journey recently to get off of every med, including the Lyrica.  I have come off of buspar and trazodone.  I have been finally Lyrica free for 6 weeks now.

I'm currently on 3 mgs of K. 1.5 mg am and 1.5 pm mg.  I'm joining benzobuddies for advice and support as I get closer to starting this K taper.  I'm familiar with the Ashton Manual and also daily microptapering.  I'm really liking the sound of daily microptapering, so I want to explore that further.

Hello Starshine,

Welcome to Benzo Buddies! It looks like you've done your homework and have looked at the various methods of withdrawal.  That's a good step towards starting your taper and beginning the journey to be benzo free. I'm sorry about the false diagnosis, I know how that feels having been diagnosed with a inner ear issue that was determined that I never had.  At least you now know what was causing your problems and can move forward towards a better tomorrow.

You have been on a pretty significant dose of klonopin. A slow taper is recommended to minimize withdrawal symptoms. Generally a reduction of no more than 5-10% every 10-14 days is suggested. I'll give you a link to the General Taper Plans for additional information. Since you are interested in titration, I'll also give you a link to the Titration Board.

I'm happy you are aware of the Ashton Manual, I'll give you a link for easy reference. The manual was written by Dr. Heather Ashton, an expert in the field and provides good information about these drugs and how they affect the human system.

Please ask questions, we're here to help.  You've come to the right place for support and encouragement.
