15 Year Prescription User Needs to Taper from Ativan Addiction

Hello. My doctor informed me that the drug he's prescribed me for 15 years  is now known to cause Alzheimer's disease. And oh, by the way, it's very addictive, so he's cut my dose in half for each of the past two months. I've been experiencing bad withdrawals, and he refuses to give me Valium to allow me to lower at 10%. So I'm left on my own...

Sorry you’re being forced into doing a fast taper, and like many of us here finding out late about the addictive nature of these drugs. Are you familiar with the ashton manual. Perhaps you could copy some pertinent pages from the Ashton and ask your doctor for support with a slower taper, you will get plenty of support here. 

 

Tapering slow can help to minimize withdrawal effects.  It is generally recommended to taper no more than 5-10% every 10-14 days.  This is a guideline and it is ok to adjust this schedule for your own comfort.
