Promising New Information Regarding CBN

Hello Team BB,

I found this information on Sleep Hill Labs website. They have been leading the way on research related to CBN and other Cannabinoids found in Cannabis and how they relate to sleep. I have posted information on making CBN before, here is the original link:

"Cannabinol (CBN): A Sleeping Synergy

Many who have heard of the cannabinoid Cannabinol (CBN) have a negative impression of the compound, as it is typically believed to be a degraded compound that appears in old, poorly stored cannabis. However, this bleak perspective is not entirely accurate.

Unlike most cannabinoids, CBN rarely results from the decarboxylation of its acid form (CBNA). Most of the CBN found in cannabis is due to the degradation of THC, wherein the THC has oxidized to CBN. CBN is either non-psychoactive or very mildly psychoactive.

Most of the CBN found in cannabis is due to the degradation of THC, wherein the THC has oxidized to CBN.

It reduces intraocular pressure in the eye (similar to D9THC), so it can be used in the treatment of Glaucoma without the psychoactive effects of THC. CBN is synergistic with THC for treatment purposes. CBN also fights free radicals in the bloodstream, and it performs similarly to THC in pain reduction treatments.

Of all the cannabinoids, CBN appears to be the most sedative. Not only is it sedative, it takes very little to do the job. The consumption of 2.5mg to 5mg of CBN has the same level of sedation as a mild pharmaceutical sedative, with a relaxed body sensation similar to 5mg to 10mg of diazepam. CBN is synergistic with both CBD and D9THC for inducement of sleeping, and when mixed in the correct ratios, CBN becomes an effective sleep aid of 5-6 hours duration. As we do more research focused on CBN, we will no doubt discover more fascinating properties of this often misunderstood cannabinoid. In the meantime, CBN appears to be a beneficial alternative to THC for treatment, and patients that require low (or no) adverse psychoactive effects."

So many of us are looking for ways to get sleep without the aid of harsh pharmaceuticals. I feel that all options should be available to us. In God we Trust.

Hi great info. Just wondering if you have tried this or cbd oil before. Thanks!

Yes I have made and have used CBN many times. CBD also but not for sleep. I have never used oils, butter or any other concentrates, I prefer smoking/vaping and making edibles with Cannabis flowers PRN. I try to grow plants about 3-4 weeks past maturity which makes it even better for sleep and then convert to CBN.

I have found that a 3-5mg CBN cookie, 50mg 5htp, 500mg Taurine and .5mg melatonin works almost as well as any benzo I ever tried. I stagger these supps over 2 hours before bedtime, works every time.

Where do you get cbn cookies. I tried marys cbn capsules last week when I was in a fit of self induced anxiety and couldn't sleep. I took 2 5mg capsules with no success.

Hi Mags...

I hope all is going well with you. Wow if you took 10mg and had no luck either you got a bad batch from Mary's or it just doesn't work for you. When I use CBN I also potentiate the dose with 50-100mg of 5htp 2 hours before bed time and 500mg of Taurine one hour before with the cookie. This usually makes me as sleepy as can be. If not right before I lay down I will smoke one puff of CBN which really kicks in the effect and I am out. In the rare occasion that that does not work I will take .5mg of a dissolvable melatonin under my tongue and that really works.  :sleepy:

I know this sounds like a lot of stuff but it is all basically harmless except that Taurine is a mild gaba agonist, but like I said it does work very well for me and my sleep now is very good which is a miracle considering what it was. I am looking forward to the day that I need nothing but for now this will have to do.

Since I live in a non MMJ state I make my own... First I convert 1 gram of marijuana understanding this math; 1 gram of Marijuana with a thc content of 20% +or- will equal approximately 200mg of cbn. At 5mg per cookie that will make 40 cookies. I mix up any cookie recipe, add the cbn and make 40 cookie dough balls that I freeze. I bake a few at a time as needed.

Here is my favorite...

1 gram decarbed cannabis flower (200 degrees for 48 hours) IN GLASS DISH NOT FOIL! Scrape and Stir occasionally.

· 1/4 cup butter (1/2 stick, 2 ounces), room temperature

· 1/4 cup coconut oil 2 ounces room temperature

· 1 cup coconut sugar

· 1/2 cup peanut butter and some chopped pecans

· 1 egg

· 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

· 3/4 teaspoon baking soda

· 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

· 1/4 teaspoon salt

I rarely use more than 1 cookie 5mg of CBN per dose. I feel no heavy buzz usually just the needed sedation for sleep.

Good luck,

Wilson

You must be a scientist. I heard decarb.  Ing marijuana is not an easy task.

LOL, not a scientist, a CFO!  :2funny: Decarbing THCA to THC is different, 225 degrees for a 30 minutes in an oven, pretty easy. To convert cannabis (THC) to CBN is much slower and takes 48 hours!

So you bake the flowers in the oven at that temp for 48 hrs? I have an indica strain i've had in my room that I have not touched in 6 months. I may have to try this!

Hi Billy,

Yep, chop it up fine, spread it out, bake 200 degrees for 48 hours, voila, sleep weed...  :2funny:

Less than 48 hours it will still be psychoactive, after 48 almost zero high.

Assume 1 gram of product is 200mg of medicine, 3-10mg is a dose.

What is the purpose of decarb?

Aha... Normally decarbing is done to make Cannabis psychoactive when eaten. If raw or un-decarbed cannabis is eaten it will not have much of an effect. "THCA" is the Cannabinoid found in cannabis before it is smoked or decarbed, it needs to be converted to THC by heat. When smoked or vaped the heat instantly decarbs it. So if eating instead of smoking prior decarboxylation is necessary.

Now converting to CBN is different but similar... Long term decarboxylation is used to make CBN. First the THCA is converted to THC and then it is further "degraded/converted" into CBN. This is done over 48 hours and at a lower temperature. The heat completely changes the THC into a very different cannabinoid with different effects.

Incidentally, "CBD" cannot be created by the process of decarboxylation. It has to already be contained in a particular cannabis strain. It will be interesting to see what therapeutic effects long term decarbed CBD will have... Stay tuned.

Make sense?  :o

Wilson

No, but if it will put to sleep and keep me asleep, I'll take it.
