Topomax anyone?

I'm looking for some opinions about topomax. I had taken it ten years ago and I felt it made me very hostile. I tried taking it again in the fall of last year and I noticed the hostility again and discontinued it. Upon my cold turkey my nurse practitioner insisted I try it again saying that irritability is not a side effect and I was wrong that it makes me hostile. I convinced her to take me to 25 mgs from 75mgs. I noticed a slight improvement but I still do not feel like myself in that regard. I've read that it can make people edgy. But again she told me I was false. Does anyone have any insight?

I've never taken Topamax, but if you think Topamax is making you edgy, then it may be better to follow your intuition. Everyone reacts a bit different to these medications. Well, most us were told that benzodiazepines were good for anxiety, and here we are.....

I took it. It made me forget words mid-sentence (sometimes they call it DOPE-a-max) and I actually fell (like tripped on a curb and busted @ss) at least twice. It also made my toes tingle/numb.

 

I will say that it did alleviate some of my symptoms when reducing my benzo intake, though. This was a couple years ago. (i think it has some anti-seizure properties, right?)

 

Anyway, it didn't do much for my mood and yes, it may have made me a little hyper/antsy, if I recall.

 

I just stopped it after a couple of weeks because I didn't like the way it made me feel.

I think it's on the list as one of the many, new and improved drugs to deal with pain! Now that the CDC and DEA have decided no one should have narcotic pain meds anymore......don't get me started!

Anyway I was prescribed it by my new Pain Doc last summer........No Thanks!

Got so many awful side effects and no relief of pain!  My husband took it for seizure disorder up until his death due to a grand mal in his sleep so I cant even say as a seizure drug that it's any good!  He had all kinds of bad side effects from most of them!  Now they're using all the past seizure meds for pain...unfortunately I say because they are so hard on people....so so many nasty side effects!

I'd totally agree that rage is not only an issue from Topamax but is also a major effect of stopping Benzos too! So likely you're having a double whammy!
