Does splitting daily dose work?

Recommended Posts

I've tried in the past splitting my daily dose in half (while dry cutting) to hopefully stabilize, but failed miserably after 2-3 days. I currently take 1 dose at bedtime, as I have for over a year now, but have terrible interdose withdrawals. I wanted to try again but this time on my liquid taper. Anyone with experience and positive results? I was thinking maybe 9am and 9pm?

Yes. Especially tapering off of short acting benzos.

I dry cut my taper off of clonazepam and took two doses daily.  I did mine around 2-3pm, and the other around 9pm.  It worked for me, but I was never stable during my taper.  It was a daily struggle..  good news is that a year later, things aren't nearly as bad.

I've often heard that the general rule with regards to substance dependence is that the more often you dose and the higher the dose, the more dependent one becomes on the substance in question. Although it's compeletly upto you and how you feel. I would not recommend dosing more often even if it's the same dosage overall.

Higher usages will increase dependency.  Frequency of dosing will have no effect.

As a generalization, more frequent dosing will tend to keep blood concentrations more level.  That really is not usually a major concern with ling half life benzos, like V and K, however.

I dose 4X daily with Valium in order to keep my doses smaller. Will soon go to three doses. If I was on Xanax or Ativan I'd dose every four hours for as long as possible. The inderdose withdrawals otherwise would be dreadful...but I also like to keep a steady dose in my system. Works better for me. B

This is what I was wondering...I wouldn't see how splitting a dosages will increase dependency. It actually might make tapering easier. Now if the dosage increased  along with the increased mgs, that would be different. I am looking to split my once a day Ativan to.two.

I split my 2v in half recently, it seems to have helped, but early days i guess (a couple of weeks i think)...

I am mainly chasing the muscle relaxant effect, which i think is more the shorter therapeutic effect, than a half life type thing...

But it will make any pill splitting i wish to do, just that little bit harder... -no biggie...
