Has anyone taken Prednisone while on valium?  I have a pinched nerve in my neck that is causing me severe pain.  Doc wants me on it.  He says there's no interactions.  My pharmacist told me that it may make me jittery and jumpy.  That's why I take the valium! He also laughed when I told him I wanted off and he told me, "good luck! Ha!  My wife tried to get off, but it was so hard she quit and now is just going to take them the rest of her life!".  He wanted to prescribe valium to me with the Prednisone, when I told him I already took it.  I don't want more anxiety.  I am already on edge because it is that time of the month, and it always sucks.  Plus, now I have this darned arm/shoulder/neck/hand/finger pain/tingling/numbness, stabbing that I have to deal with from this pinched nerve.

Just looking for anyone who's had to take it.  Thanks.

I have seen your nerve issues described as a wd sx...?

Also to me, prednisone sounds a strange choice, or not what i would have expected for your issues.

Unless ofcourse it is injury or inflamation related perhaps... -just quick thoughts, not in any way an opinion...

But i hope it settles for you, Its not a nice type of pain to have...

It is not withdrawal.  It is from a pinched nerve.  I thought it may be withdrawal, but I hurt it in February of 2016.  It has hurt off and on sense.  I was not on benzos at the time.  The pain has worsened...So I thought perhaps it was just withdrawal.  But, after seeing a PT and an orthopedic, they both agree that it is a picture chef nerve in my C7 vertebra in my neck.  I go to PT 3x a week and see the orthopedic again in 2 weeks.  He told me to absolutely stop my taper or I will be in severe pain .  He said that the C7 vertebrae is the worst one to have pinched a nerve in and that surgery has to go through the front of the neck instead of the back, since it is so low.  I am TERRIFIED.  I have never had ANY surgeries, I've never been put under.  I hope PT helps.  But, I have heard the Prednisone can cause anxiety, which I do not need.  But, if it helps with he pain, I guess I do it?  I have he worst health anxiety.  This is so hard to decide.

No,, you dont need anxiety, the tennsion will realy work aggainst you... as im sure you know...

Seems like they are still pro-activly treating you for recovery, which is great, better than talking about masking meds long term, ie gabapentin or the like...

When I broke my neck and back and, well most bits, I found the trauma Drs insisted on hydrotherapy, which was a huge logistiical issue from the initial hospital... But i think it made a huge difference(muscle memory), I had massive nerve damage, though not the same as yours...

Surgery is a big thing, many of mine were over 12hrs, but they tend to be quite good at things these days... -if it comes to that, be open with the surgeon and expect the same back... But i suspect you have a good chance of avoiding surgery, even if that means holding your taper to avoid exess muscle tension while treating the nerve issue... -a very personal choice...

Also, just for interest, I got a lot of good help from a Bowen Therapist, a well recommended one...

Ofcorse a lot of my reply is speculative and assumes a component of muscular/soft tissue involvment... -If it were purely orthopeidic things would differ yet again, I am assuming they have x-rayed and are treating accordingly...

I wish you all the best, and really would say, while its no small thing, pls dont stress about surgery, which is only a possibility at this stage, as best I can guess...

-you count back from 100, a few numbers... -Then you wake up... Too easy!!! :)

A bit deferred from your original question, but i hope this helps in some small way...

It does help, thank you.  They did x-rays, those are clear.  I am continuing PT, which seems to help, then hurt tomorrow, but is sort of its job!  I am hoping to avoid surgery, but we will see.  I just hope my primary doc understands that I may have to hold my taper.  She's the one rushing me off.  The orthopedic says absolutely not.

I took prednisone while on Klonopin and xanax and it was fine.  It was a bit of a stimulant for me, but not in a very bad way.  I had a lot of extra energy at first, for maybe the first 4 days or a week.  I did some cleaning and didn't sleep much at night.  It was a similar feeling to having a coffee too late in the day and then just extra energy.  I only took it for 4 weeks and I slept very well when I stopped taking it.

Thanks for your experience.  So, you didn't feel jittery, just more energy and sleeplessness?  That I could handle, I guess.
