My Breathing makes me feel horrible

Recommended Posts

My mornings are full of anxiety which effects my breathing mostly, which I think creates the uncomfortable chest pain.

I've read info on how to slow down my breathing but it's really hard. I know a lot of people on this forum suffer from this. I'd like to get advise on what works and what doesn't.

Thank you.

HEY Bud

I used to have a lot of anxiety and it always created pressure in my chest and my neck and shoulders felt like I was carrying the weight of the world.

I think the only way it gets better is with time.  Time will heal and you will slowly feel better.

I am basically feeling 95% these days only remaining issue is that I still have to take something for sleep.  But the chest pain the shoulder and neck stiffness is all gone.  I can only suggest try to keep busy do things you can enjoy be it outdoor activities, basically anything to keep your mind healthy and as happy as possible.

I am staying on 1.5mg Diazapam for now as I have been feeling horrible. I've reduced my Cipralex down to 15mg since March 17. My doctor thinks it's not working for me and will switch me to Zoloft in one week.  He doesn't think what I'm experiencing with my symptoms is due to getting off the Lorazapam and tapering the Diazapam. He believes it's the Cipralex not working for me and this is why he suggested Zoloft.

Friday I had a very good day but yesterday and today have not been good. Tinitus, heavy breathing, tightness in my chest, nausea and probably depression as I seem to lose hope when I feel this way. Is this my Cipralex not working or withdrawal?

I'm hoping I can get a good discussion on how to relax my breathing.  I've read that a lot of the symptoms are because I'm getting too much oxygen and not enough CO2. I read about a machine that helps to regulate your breathing so that you get the proper amount of CO2.

Paul,

I suspect that your breathing is fine. Our bodies know how to breath themselves. I think that anxiety often focuses on our breathing in order to sustain itself. Take away breathing concerns and anxiety will manifest itself in other ways. Perhaps if you can successfully distract yourself with pleasant things, you will forget about your fears.

Hi Paul,

Has anyone explained to you the difference between chest breathing and 'belly', or diaphragm breathing? I suffered a lot with muscle spasms in my abdominal muscles, and without realizing it, would resort to chest breathing which made my neck, back and pectoral muscles very sore. I used to even worry it was angina, since I just had a heart attack, but it wasn't.

You can easily test whether you are breathing properly with your diaphragm, just put a hand on your tummy and see whether it rises and falls with each breath. If not, try lying on your back, it makes it easier.

Hi Queen,

Yes I have read this and when I remember to do it, it does help a little. I think it's about the correct amount of CO2. When I hyper breath my CO2 goes down and I get all the negative side effects. I'm surprised that no one has made a machine that helps to control this so you get the proper amount of Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide.

Anyways, my side effects have been all over the place with my tapering of Diazapam and now the Cipralex. I am definitely feeling the waves.

I have this problem too, chest pain and all.  Heart doctor had me wear a monitor for a week and said it was not dangerous. I have been reading on here that it might be the vagal nerve and to put cold water on your face or to hum to stop it. Also recommended zinc and fish oil.
