I know every one is different I am aware of that. but I want to know what month this cortisolsurge lift?  I just want to know that this will pass .  at month 4  it looked like it was slowly lifting. around the end of the 5th month  and not at 6 3/4  months out it got worse. I did not drink any alcohol at all. I don't do that. heard too many horror stories behind that.  I wondered why it got worse?

I almost didn't respond because I could not tell you exactly when it will get better for YOU...except to say it will get better.  I had this horrible horrible symptom and it made me downright crazy...especially during the night.  As the weeks and months went by, around week 25, I realized that the surges weren't worsening and were actually decreasing in intensity then frequency. Once I learned that the surges had a scientific basis I was able to accept it better and ride it out..it is now 98% gone and when it now happens I just laugh and shake my head.

Best wishes...

Hi Momack,

I'm sorry you are dealing with those awful adrenaline/cortisol surges.  That was/is one of my worst symptoms.  I had them constantly when first off and they are scary and debilitating.  But as time went on, they occurred less and less.  I am now 19 months off and still have them occasionally but they are not as intense and I am able to just ignore them for the most part.  Symptoms wax and wane for no apparent reason that we can detect.  That's the nature of healing from this awful mess.  Very frustrating I know.  At 7 months off, you are still relatively early on in your healing process.  You will get there!  Stay strong.

I am at 13 months off and this is my worst symptom. Mine happen in the mornings...the early morning wake-ups at around 2:00 AM - 3:00 AM...like clockwork...every single night, never fails. They also can call this toxic morning wake-ups. I've noticed a change though...the last three days they have been less intense, whew...what a relief. I'm hoping this is going away. Just like SheWhoMust states...you are still early in your healing process. I know we don't like to hear it...but it does take time. It will end. You'll be okay.

thank choco. I am sorry I worded it wrong.  what I meant was when did it lift for you?  I just want to know  that it does go away. and how did you deal with it?

and what was the specific basis for the surges?

I did know chapter and verse, but it is the interconnected adrenal/cortisol circulatory system along with circadian rhythms that were all affected by the Benzodiazepine alteration of GABA A receptors and that neurotransmitters' manufacture which doesn't return fast enough to keep up with demand.

Mine really started decreasing at about 6=7 months but we are all different.  I dealt with it poorly, lol, but would get up, take off my PJ's and wipe down and air dry...I did a lot of self talk reassuring myself that it would only last a few minutes and did not mean anything bad was happening...I think that is key for every single event....Here at BB I was introduced to something called "Triangle Breathing" and is readily available on the internet, especially on YouTube...after watching it a few times it is really easy to picture it w/o seeing it in real time...By the time I do the breathing to the triangle unfolding the event is over!!!  Oh, and I mentioned elsewhere, I bought a stand alone room air conditioner and make it about 60 in my bedroom, hahahaha!!!

Good luck, not that you need it, really all we need is TIME!!!

Hey Momack I'm right there with you, I jumped about the same time you did  and have lately been dealing with the adrenaline. It comes and goes, I recently had a couple of days without but as I sit here it feels like someone has stretched a net across my face and head. It comes upon exertion and always 6-7 PM  Hopefully it gets less. Hangin tuff

Mine dissapeared pretty quickly over the course of maybe a month. It randomly showed up again maybe a week or two ago (I am currently comuning up on 2 months clean) but i only used benzos for maybe the course of a month. I healed from it and im sure at some point you will too. God is that bullshit annoying though especially when i had no clue what it was and it just made me panic.

my situation is 4 months  the surge/anxiety was letting up. then at the end of 5 months it  came back every day instead of every other day.  like my windows have closed up. the thing is at night  I am alright.  I am disappointed because  like I said things was slowly getting better, then BAM! this is so disheartening. I feelike I am loosing it.
