Weening off Lorazepam and Trazodone

Hello. I am here for help and support in getting off Lorazepam and Trazodone. I have been on Benzos for 4-5 Years, starting with Temazepam. When that stopped working for sleep and night terrors, I was switched to Lorazepam @ 2mg then 4mg. Dropped from 4mg to 2mg last year with little trouble. Feb.2 I dropped from 2mg to 1.5mg and went through hell. Trazodone is at 200mg @ night, down from 300. I can't be a zombie anymore. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

I am glad you found us today. The recommended reduction rate is 5 to 10 percent every two weeks. A gradual taper really is the best way to try to minimize symptoms. Also, you may want to just taper one at a time, and since Trazadone could help with a common symptom of withdrawal (insomnia) I would do the Ativan first.

 

You might like to check out The Ashton Manual it is an authoritative source on what to expect in withdrawal and recovery.  Dr. Ashton is an expert in the field.
