Really Hoping to Quit!

Hi...I have unknowingly been addicted to Ativan for approximately the last five years. I was originally prescribed  the drug for anxiety and insomnia. Outside of a handful of instances, over the years, I have taken anywhere from .25 mg to 1 mg only at night.  As my dosage has always been sporadically in this range, I have tried to go with only .25 mg the last four days and I am definitely feeling it.  Rapid heartbeat, anxiety, increased insomnia...the whole nine yards.  While I have now realized that dropping to a daily dose of only .25 mg per day is a bigger jump than I had originally anticipated, I also hate to backtrack now by adding more to this current daily dose.

Can anyone comment on whether day four at this level is likely to be close to the worst of it with respect to withdrawals or should I expect things to only get worse?

Thanks!

Hi  :) Welcome to BenzoBuddies!

I am glad you found us today. The recommended reduction rate is 5 to 10 percent every two weeks. A gradual taper really is the best way to try to minimize symptoms.
