atarax for withdrawal anxiety

Is atarax a problem to take during withdrawals?  Is it/has it been addictive for anyone?  I've been trying not to take anything for anxiety, after taking ativan for 20+ years, but I just can't take this constant anxiety anymore.

I took Atarax (hydroxyzine) early in my c/t detox withdrawal and it helped to calm me a little.  I took it for a two or three times a day for a few months and then quit taking it with no problems (other than my other terrible benzo withdrawal symptoms).  I didn't find it addictive after taking it for this period of time although I have heard that some people will taper it after taking for a year or more.  I stopped taking it because I was feeling a little better at the time.  I have since tried taking it occasionally but now find that it makes me very sleepy.  For me, it was more effective than propanalol.
