Planning my liquid taper - have I got it right?

Recommended Posts

I'm stuck on my final 2mg of diazepam and having some research here at this forum (lots of useful information, thanks  :)), I've decided a liquid microtaper is the best way to get off it.

I think I've understood it but I just want to check I've got everything right and haven't messed up the maths. I can't drink milk or alcohol so will be using propylene glycol. I currently take one 2mg tablet a day.

Things to buy

Propylene glycol

10 ml syringe

1 ml syringe

Beaker to measure the liquid

Jar to store it in

To create a weekly batch

Dissolve seven 2mg tablets in 28 ml PG. Add 112 ml water.

This will give a solution where 10ml of liquid = 1mg diazepam.

Dose

In order to reduce by 0.02mg a day, take:

Day 1 19.8ml

Day 2 19.6ml

Day 3 19.4ml

...and so on.

Thanks  :)

Thanks for the replies jr50898 and builder :)

your cut amounts to 30% for the first month. That may be a little much. all your numbers look right

I was hoping I could get off it in 3 months as it's a low dose. Do you think that's too fast?

My community psychiatric nurse is nagging me to start trying get off it, but not offering any support. She warned me that many local GPs are stopping benzo prescriptions and I'm a bit worried I'll just be taken off it. I want to take control of my withdrawal myself. I next see my CPN in  3 months so it would be good to be off by then.

You can try to cut at that rate but remember to listen to your body. If the sxs ramp up, hold before cutting any more. Good luck and press on
