Wishing to withdraw from zopiclone

[ba...]

Recommended Posts

Hi I have been taking Zopiclone for 15 years after a breakdown.

My present dose is 7.5 mg per night., but because I have become tolerant to them and can only sleep 3 -4 hours a night I sometimes take another 1/4 to enable me to sleep more.

I know this is bad and want to come off them but don't know how to do it.

Hi  :) Welcome to BenzoBuddies!

I am glad you found us today. "Z" drugs should be tapered. The recommended reduction rate is 5 to 10 percent every two weeks.

You might like to check out The Ashton Manual it is an authoritative source on what to expect in withdrawal and recovery.  Dr. Ashton is an expert in the field.

Please feel free to post to any of the dedicated boards, we have a wonderful community of people here, who will give sound advice. Members have been through all aspects of benzodiazepine use and withdrawal and are more than willing to share their experiences.

Yep, my wife was on a heavy dose at one time. The more she took the less sleep she got and the more weird she became. We did a fairly slow taper off over the course of 7-8 months. Been a godsend getting off that drug. At best she was getting 1.5 hrs of sleep a night, at times taking up to 30mgs in desperation for sleep. She was up all through the night in a drug induced state binge eating and no recollection of it the next day. Nasty drug Zop

Would definitely suggest you try to taper slowly, though I'm not expert on how to do it since I didn't.... I C/Ted after about two years of use and the insomnia for the first few weeks was unbearable, 3-4 hours would have been a miracle.

You're already ahead of the game by coming and asking the right questions. There is a wealth of information here. Good luck, and take it slow. It's not going to be fun but it will be worth it!

Thank you all for replying. It makes me feel better to know that I,m not alone in this. I will look at the Zopiclone ports and Ashton Manual.
