I feel trapped

For starters I've been using Xanax on and off for 4 years and it's gotten old. I originally would take 2 - 4 blues. I guess I'll jump to the point of where I am today.....I started back up January 1st and quickly landed in a duel diagnosis unit by the 4th but I didn't exactly go for Xanax. I went because I was  (probably in a pyschois) suicidal. I took way more than I thought I did and the entire time I was in denial...the day I got out, the 10th, I took 2mg. I used them on and off until the very end of January in where I have been taking 4mg a day. Yesterday was the first day I only took 2mg and it was in the morning. By night time I decided to take something else  (2 ecstasy pills) and by today and staying up all night with reading stuff saying 2mg is a lot, I figured me, out of no where tapering off to 1mg from 2 in a day would be a piece of cake. This morning I took 1mg and I am still not calm or asleep. I'm wondering three things:

1. Would a week of 4mg Xanax give me extreme withdrawal symptoms?

2. If so am I tapering it down too fast?

3. If I started taking what I was originally percribed  (visceral and minipress for ptsd) would it calm down the symptoms?

My tolerance for Xanax goes up very very quickly as to where I ended up in rehab for taking 50 1mg Xanax in a week, tried to drop it cold turkey and wound up in the er from a panic attack on day 3 without them.

Any advice is appreciated, I currently do not have insurance so I have a hard task to handle.

Thanks- mlb

Hi myownkindastory.  Welcome to BenzoBuddies.

It's often hard to predict how to best taper from fairly short term use, and a history of having used benzodiazepines in the past can make this even more confusing when deciding how fast to taper.  I'll give you a couple of links to boards where you can ask about a taper plan and for help with the withdrawal symptoms:

General Taper Plans

Withdrawal Support

To ask about the non-benzodiazepine medications you're prescribed, here's a link to Other Medications

One of the posting guidelines on the forum asks that members not post suicidal references, but let me give you this link to helplines should you find yourself needing them:  Self Harm Policy

You may want to have a look at The Ashton Manual, which is an authoritative source on what to expect during withdrawal and recovery, authored by Dr. C. Heather Ashton, who is an expert in the field. It provides a great deal of information that can be very reassuring during any stage of this process, including a list of common symptoms with helpful explanations on the reasons for their existence.
