Does anyone have one? I feel like mine is getting much worse with acid reflux and nausea. Nausea is my top SXE. I'm in so much pain as I've had the flu and was throwing up. Ana ideas are not touching it. Any advice?

Hey Third,

One of my hernias is in a similar location, but from thr removal of surgical scar tissue that calcified... So a bit different...

The best thing for me is to keep my dygestive system moving to reduce internal pressure and avoid gassy foods that cause bloating... -easier said than done for me...

But being so sick as you have been would not have been good... Im sure you know more about it than me.. maybe a barrier type antacid like gaviscon, to reduce inflammation and irritation...???

Sorry, my problems are all below the stomach and deuodenum...

Hope you feel much better soon, and get much better info than i have to give...

Best wishes...

Thanks Cantfly...wow you have been through a lot and wow I bet those pain pills must have messed up your hernia, but with that kind of operation not much of a choice.

I'm trying Gaviscon and pepcid but if I don't watch myself I chug a whole bottle. I wish I could get a hold of a lidocaine antacid I once used by Prescription. Oddly cough drops help and I think it's the lidocaine ....I can't spell either  ;D Lucky for me lidocaine has not had a bad reaction with me.

I have irritable bowel and acid reflux also.  I take Nexium sometimes or really anything to reduce acid in your stomach.  Don't do too much of the carbonated drinks or things like that.  Of course, any time you have flu or cold or even allergies that just causes more drainage up and down your system and also the more stress you have whether from withdrawing or illness will make the acid worse.  Even though I recommend against carbonated sometimes I take some ginger ale or even a little cola and eat some toast or crackers.

Lidocaine sounds quick and effective (i had a quick google)...

I also wondered about motillium or another gastric emptying med..??

But im starting to guess, and thats probably not helpfull...

Snake,

Just between us, -i find coke's bubbles rather soothing... not so sure about the sugar, but, oh well... lol

yes, Cantfly  everyone has to find what works for them...just like on the medicines.  I also find the coke to be soothing but when my acid is too severe I stick with the tea.

Yes, I had a little bit of reflux after coke once, when i lay on my stomach... not nice... and that was a tiny taste of what i imagine others suffer...

The gastro dr put me on nexium for a while, but in my particular case it caused worse constipation and gass, slow transit time im guessing...

I have one, but the doctors keep telling me it's a benign thing and over half of the population has one. It really depends how big it is and if it's hitting your vagus nerve.

I also have a hiatal hernia, and my acid reflux has been really bad through this.  I have cut out certain foods, and don't drink coffee, or smoke, and it's still just not enough.  The only thing I find that helps for me are the Proton Pump Inhibitors.  I also have IBS which has certainly been worse through tapering as well.  Hope you are able to find some relief.

I don't see how anyone in WD can take a proton pump inhibitor - they send my anxiety through the roof. The PPI is probably giving you IBS since you cant digest your food.

Having had a hiatal hernia for years I can appreciate how You feel. The hiatal spincter at the top of the stomach is part of the smooth muscle GI system and is affected by the fight or flight symptoms that WD can bring on causing pain.  If could also be caused by the stomach acid or a combination of both.An antacid may relieve the pain if its caused by the acid alone.  Been there doing that now even toward the end of My taper although as My dose gets smaller the smooth muscle contractions have lessened .

Talk to Your Doc or make an apt with a GI doc for an evaluation ?

Thanks everyone! Wow I'm defiantly not alone in this one. I had an upper GI done and he said it was a good size and that was about 7 years ago. I did notice that my seltzer water was aggravating it but thought it was in my head so thanks for the advice on the bubbles. I too like to drink a full sugar pop like ginger ale or anything I can get my hands on if I have nausea; that sugar seems to help. I guess that is why coke was at the pharmacy back in the day. I found some videos on you tube to manually try to push it down and believe it or not it help... or may have been a placebo. Boy with my bronchitis back my GABA feels like it is used up by 11am. I get sicker and sicker as the day goes on.
