Down to 0.1 diazepam unbearable headaches

[Pa...]

Recommended Posts

For the last 2 days I have reduced my diazepam again, now on 0.1 mgs and managing.  Am determined to kick this awful habit. I got 5 hours uninterrupted sleep last night which was fantastic as my average is 2/3. However wakened with a terrible headache and still have it now mid afternoon.  Can anyone tell me if this is normal when tapering as I'm worried it might be something serious.  I played a 30 minute video from tube on my iPad to help me sleep and it surely worked.  It was called "Guardian angel meditation, spoken word" I will try it again tonight and if it works I will POST. I can understand a headache from lack of sleep but not from good sleep.  It's almost unbearable so any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

I am sorry you are experiencing such bad pain.  :therethere: headaches can happen at any phase of withdrawal. They are not uncommon at all. Neither is the feeling of head pressure. I had both of these daily in my early withdrawal. They brought me to the ER many times because they were so "unbearable". Hopefully today's headache is a isolated incident for you. You may consider not making anymore cuts until it passes. I hope you feel better soon. :smitten:

Thank you so much for your advice and support.  I really thought I had a brain tumour or something else very serious.  Pain is still bad but perhaps I can try to relax a bit more knowing that the headache is common during withdrawal.  I am so glad I found this site, everyone is so helpful and I really appreciate as this tapering is a lonely road.

I find that when I get little sleep, I don't have a headache. But when I sleep too much, I have one, same as you. Go figure these benzos.......I just take Tylenol and that works well for me. Sorry about your headaches. :'(

Thank you Benzogirl, that's what frightened me as I had a great night's sleep and then this weird headache.  What is Tylenol? I never heard of it.  Perhaps it is a prescription medication or just not available here in UK.  I am due to take my next 0.1mg diazepam in an hour or so and maybe that will ease the headache.  Much appreciated.

at 0.1 looks you are ready to jump.  might do more harm then good at this dose. what type of headache, migraine or tension? for migraine i found sumatriptan to be very effective (RX only), otherwise try good old acetominophen(paracetamol)

Tylenol is an OTC pain killer in the US. It helps a lot and I take it because of that plus it has no caffeine in it. Actually drinking coffee, of  you can tolerate it, can get rid of headaches. Headaches are caused (by others ) but when you have too much blood flowing into your brain. The caffeine reduces the blood flow. Here it's called by these names as well.

Brands: Tylenol, Panadol, Anacin, Mapap, Ofirmev, Mejoralito, Feverall, Xl-dol, Acephen, Bf-paradac, Aypanal, Nortemp, Aphen, Tempra, Ringl, Select, Rugby, Easy, and Apap. I think once you get stable, you are on such a low dose of Valium that I doubt it is doing anything for you. If it was me, I  would just drop the remaining dose and finally be benzo-free. Good luck to you, as I'll be thinking of you. :smitten:

Your dose is of no therapeutic value at all so I'd clearly just stop it. Headaches are common unfortunately and yes it's imflammation usually of blood vessels in the brain (harmless but painful). I think Tylenol is called paramedicol or something like that in the U.K. Ask your pharmacist for it. They'll know. It's not prescription there either. And I do take it with caffeine (coffee) to help it work faster and it gives a better punch to it. I also use aspirin because it's an anti inflammatory. Works better if your tummy can handle it. I get severe migraines. Yes they can be painful beyond description. B

Thank you Barbs and Betsy, I think it may be the right time to jump off all Valium and so I'll give it a go and will let you know how the headaches fare.  I will include you both in my prayers tonight and wish you both as easy a journey as possible on the road to your Meds free life. And by the way I too  was a smoker, and a heavy one so always remember that the first is the easiest to refuse.  It was so hard to stop that the memory of those awful times will live with me forever and that's good because it stops me being ever tempted.

Please let us know. I think it will be a non event for you. While's I'm nearly 1 year free of the ciggies, my craving are still terrible, so I eat candy bars instead. Now I have to go clothes shopping again. :laugh. You are darn luck that you don't have those cravings. Blah.

Got optician to check me out as headaches were continuing and some vision problems.  Thorough check and diagnosis was a migraine aura.  Headaches now gone and am into 4th day off all Valium. I think my brain has been addled as a 10th of 10 mgs is not 0.1 but is 1mg which is what I have just stopped.  So far I am OK except for poor sleep and depression but am expecting some sort of a kick in the next couple of days.  Please God I will get through as I really want to live a normal life, for what's left of it. Also it would be great to post here that withdrawal wasn't as bad as I had anticipated.  I did it very very slowly but if this final step is tolerable then it was really worth it.  Am remembering everyone in my prayers as I have realised since joking this forum just how tough life is for so many and yet how helpful in spite. God Bless.
