SLEEP DOES RETURN!

If your healing is progressing too slow for you, do not despair. You are not permanently damaged. You will get better. If my stunned GABA receptors can begin to bounce back there is no reason to think that yours will not do the same...given enough time.

For the past 2 weeks I have had trouble sleeping during just one night while all other nights have been good to great. One night I slept straight through until morning (have not done that for a few years) and the other night I fell asleep practically while saying good night to my wife. All awakenings were quickly followed by a return to sleep.

I'm sure that this is a good window and that some rough nights still await me, but the definition of a window sure is changing. Awhile back, just getting a few hours of sleep a night was a window for me. Even the last wave that I experienced during the holiday season was an improvement over the better nights that I had over a year ago.  I always thought that healing was like a graphed line showing long-term stock market performance. The general trend shows improvement, but there are a few noticeable peaks and valleys along the way.

Thanks for that, Aloha, I always find your posts realistic and insightful. Your description of the overall trend being upwards fits my experience too. I've just hit a bit of a wave, so this came at just the right time for me. Really glad you are getting good sleep again, it makes so much difference!

Thanks everyone for sharing your happiness for me, but I have enough happiness for myself to fill the bucket right now. I just want to make sure that others do not lose hope that they too will be experiencing this in the future.

Aloha,

thanks for the encouragement. I am five weeks off a three week course of temazepam, which I got on for insomnia. The insomnia is now worse that ever, far worse than I could have ever imagined. I am averaging an hour or two of light sleep per night, with many zero nights.

How long do you think until I can stabilize? I know you are not a doctor but just your opinion.

I'm sorry but I really have no way of knowing how long it will take you to recover. Logic would cause me to believe that it will be far shorter of a time than for many of us because you were only on the drug for a pretty short time. You will still have your original insomnia issue to deal with, but I bet that was not as bad as the "cure" that was offered to you.

This is great news and very encouraging  It may be excruciatingly slow but sleep does return. Even I'm getting a few hours of light sleep most every night now. It's so tempting to believe that your brain is permanently broken and will never sleep again. That's the siren call that loves to lure me over to the rocks.

So if im still struggling at 5 years out......still wait on?

What else is there to do? Unless you want to explore other sources causing your struggles beside withdrawal issues, you just need to hang in there and enjoy the good things that do come your way. I'm sure that there are at least few (if not many).
