Need Advice

I have had quite the journey over the last 6 months through trial and error. I was very naive when it comes to Benzos and the impact of alcohol as well as quitting benzos cold turkey. I have heard over and over again from doctors and others about how "small" my dosage is/was. I drank quite a bit daily for years (no longer as of 7 months ago) and know that this is impacting my ability to heal now. I have been on a steady dose (hold) for 5 weeks due to the difficulty with W/D symptoms, however I still consistently feel the symptoms most (eye bluriness/flushing, etc) during the evening hours when I used to drink. My question is- should I wait to continue this taper until after those feelings completely subside? I have read that others who have been addicted to both have waited for a lengthy period of time to stop the benzos after they quit alcohol because of the incredible cross tolerance. The truth is, I really do not know how much "benzo" my body was used to while the alcohol acted as a "booster" (in effect).  I wen to a psychiatry appt today and he just cant figure out why I would still be having W/D symptoms while on a steady (and small) dose and off alcohol for 7 months. I think he is naive to how long the process takes- although he is willing to work with me. Any input is appreciated.

You're definitely cutting pretty quickly, and I would expect only improvement if you did hold. You're not supposed to feel 100%... but slower tapers are extremely manageable. I wouldn't even be suprised if you kept improving over a 4 week hold. It's really up to you... 7 years on is a LONG time, and .5 is no 'small dose'. You've already taken off almost 50% of your dose in 4-5 months, after the shock of a cold turkey, so, that's pretty quick.

Thank you! Still trying to figure out how my symptoms are at their worst during the time I used to drink- I guess my brain believed it was an influx of benzo/alcohol mix during that time in the past? Anyone else have that?
