The multiple doses are often done to help with inter-dose withdrawals.  It sounds like you are not having a problem with one dose a day.  It looks like you should be able to taper directly from that one dose a day.

You make no mention of how long you have been taking the medication or if on on other medicines or have been on others.  It might be helpful to create a signature line to help others when they answer any questions you have.

i am sorry. We have members here who have tapered from dosing one time a day. Everyone is different, and if dosing once a day works for you I would go with that. The recommended reduction rate is 5 to 10 percent every two weeks. Ativan has a short half life so symptoms come on fairly quickly.

EmmyB: Yep. Ativan is pretty powerful and very mean-spirited. I spent 6+ years (of my 20+) at 4mg spread throughout the day. Of my current 3mg per day level, I take 2.5 around bedtime and the other .5 somewhere between noon and 5pm as the events of the day dictate. Sometimes I'm able to do without the daytime portion- maybe one day a week. As has been said, everybody is different. Knowing how I have conditioned myself, I think my body would revolt if I divided it up and spread it around. But, for my specific case, I actually like the idea of having my dosage concentrated as I consider my taper strategy, since I will be picking off of a single big dose instead of trying to thin out over multiple doses.

Work your way back to what feels right and solid and hang in.

Yep, been where you are. I am tapering from 2 (sometimes 2.25 mgs) nightly dose. I know I have daily withdrawal until I take my bedtime dose. Wake up the next morning and start again. Tried breaking my dose up for a couple of days and it was way worse! The small amounts did nothing...and I suffered more at night. So.i.went back to my night dosing. Just remember gradual we go! Private message me if you want to talk...I don't have much support right now that understands and maybe we can battle together since our experiences are similar!

I tapered off of one dose a day of ativan . I stayed at the one dose until I got down to about .25 .Then I broke it up into 2 doses .It was easier at the lower doses to split it up . I have been off for about 9 months and although I still have anxiety here and there I am over the withdrawals and have been for a few months .Just take it really slow and know that you will feel normal again and never give up ! Inositol helped me while withdrawing . If it is going to work for you ,you will know right away . Get the pure inositol powder with no fillers and try 2 grams while having the anxiety .If you feel it working start to gradually up your dose of the inositol ( it can cause some stomach upset for some people at higher doses ,mostly gas ) . You want to up the dose of the Inositol by about a gram per week .They suggest working your way up to about 12-18 grams which is a lot but some people need far less . I could feel significant improvement at 2-4 grams . Good luck to you :)

Thanks for adding that in! I have never heard of this..interesting. I go to my doctor in two weeks, and am interested in finding something that will help relieve all this anxiety and physical symptoms. This taper is getting to me. Not only in the way of the standard withdrawal symptoms, but the psychological aspects. Anxiety, ok...but now it is just depressing me. I hate that I have to do this, not once, but now twice!!!! Your story is encouraging to me. i just hope to keep seeing more stories such as this, somedays it feels like for me it is the only hope that I have.
