I have been a benzo user for many years. I would like to get off of the merry-go-round and resume a normal life. I truly hope the forum can help me. I am currently on clonazepam 0.5 mg once daily. I was on Lorazepam for one year and my doctor switched me one week ago.

Hello Waterdog,

Welcome to Benzo Buddies!  Yes, the forum can help you, it was a lifeline for me while going through the withdrawal process. Congratulations on deciding to become benzo free!  You were just switched for lorazepam to clonazepam, how are you feeling?  Usually a gradual crossover is done when changing benzos.

A slow taper can help to minimize withdrawal symptoms. Generally a reduction of no more than 5-10% is suggested. I'll give you a link to the General Taper Plans for additional information.

I'll also give you a link to the Ashton Manual. It is an excellent resource about these types of drugs and how to withdraw. It was written by Dr. Heather Ashton, an expert in the field.

I can totally understand your wish to not be a slave to a medication, especially one that isn't designed for long term use.  In my opinion, it's well worth the effort to be benzo free. We'll support and help you through the process. Please do ask questions, we're here to help.
