Checked out a tinnitus support forum

I checked out a tinnitus support forum and saw people recommending that members there take benzos to help them cope. Jesus. I posted that my tinnitus was caused by my Klonopin taper. All I got was a stony silence. I felt like the comedian that tells a bad joke and all he hears from the audience is the sound of a cricket chirping. I cringed and came back here.

I just went back and checked. Still no response. Wow! I'm playing to a tough crowd.  The truth can be painful. :'(

The worst advice I ever got off the internet was over twenty years ago when a doctor said that you needed to take Xanax every day to treat tinnitus. His reason was that you needed to keep a constant supply in your blood stream.  Thanks for nothing doc.

I have permanent tinnitus since my mid 20's. Not from benzos, but, from playing in hardcore punk bands !

I have mild hearing loss as well from not wearing ear protection. I played in bands and toured for years . When I stopped, I thought the tinnitus would too and it didn't.

My tinnitus does not improve with benzos

Here's what I've learned...

Stress makes it worse

Oddly, so does intense exercise

White noise really really helps me

Light background music does as well

Not focusing on it and reading or distraction works

I still play in bands, but, always use ear plugs now

I have good days and bad days..if it bothers me too much, I usually take a walk in nature

Excellent site !

I've been using that site for almost a year now and love it

In my opinion nothing beats the old fashioned white noise machines. I have one in every room

This tinnitus forum needs to do some research , benzos are they for real ! I have had tinnitus My entire 63 years and can attest that the K made it worse as do many other prescription drugs. If anyone wants to know what tinnitus is IMO take a trazadone tablet ! I was given a dose when I was in the hospital , My tinnitus was so loud Im surprised no one else heard it !!!!!!!!!!.

My long time ENT explained that it can be caused by many different things but yes drugs are one of the things that can make it worse x 10. Their are natural supplements or treatments that help with the symptoms, supposedly it has something to do with the tiny blood vessels in the inner ear and also affected by eustacian tube pressure. Their is a ton of info on the web on tinnitus.

I too have had tinnitus most of my life. When I was 9 years old I had a non - malignant brain tumor. Ever since that surgery I have suffered with the ringing.

See my signature below. I am off all the benzo and benzo like drugs for 2-5 months now. Tinnitus has continued at an even louder pitch. Since I have had it for decades, I am able to get along OK. For you who are just developing tinnitus post withdrawal, I know how troubling it must be.

There is some hope in the future for us sufferers. A medical company in San Diego is now in clinical trials with a drug to eliminate/lessen tinnitus. Who knows if it will ever make it through the clinical process/ FDA approval and to market but at least it is something that is being addressed. Hereto-for, it was "just learn to live with it."
