It is common.

There is a difference between 'duration of action' (how long the drug works) and 'half life' (the time it takes for blood levels to fall by 50 %. I posted about this all over this forum !

Thanks Liberty, will see what i can find... though i went ahead and split my dose... in conjunction with an updose... either way im feeling much better after 36hrs... (thus far)... duration of action has always been 5-6 hrs, for me, for the reason im taking it... so that fits...

Cheers...

Funny you mention this....I'm spreading my doses apart so they're more regular and adding a 3rd dose because I'm thinking I'm having interdose wd from the K.

Well, if your taking 2 doses per day, sxs 18 hours after a dose certainly wouldn't be "intedose"  ::)

Thanks builder...

I wasnt, but am now...

-i crossed over from am to 6pm a while ago... (still single dose)

Then over the last two days i have now split that to 1v am and 1v pm...

Was a bit rough last night, but just sleepy(er) today...

There was an updose just before this too... -so i may as well c/o to DLMT while im playing chaos...

Thanks...

(But sing out if u see any potential problems)...

Thanks Johnnya,

Are they severe sx or more mild, creeping in?

Im wondering if its more of a low dose thing, and may have improved with a slower dlmt...

Do u plan on just pushing through for now??

Thanks again...

Well, I guess interdose withdrawal is possible on a singled daily dose of V, but it would really be unusual.

My bet is its just plain ol' withdrawal.

Duration of action ID withdrawal?  :sneaky:

Duration of action references the therapeutic effect of the med.  It has no relationship to blood concentration, and no real influence on withdrawal effects.

If someone is still benefitting from the therapeutic effect of the benzo, I'm not sure why they would want to quit.  ::)

I guess what I'm asking, is it possible to get a IDW if the duration of action time frame is less than the time frame between doses.

Example: if the DOA is say 6hrs and the person doses every 7 hrs, could they be getting IDW before the next dose

Im sure many of you have seen this played out 100X over...

I was/am taking V for stomach cramps from opiate w/d and its c/t. Also i had some RLS etc for a while post c/t and after some cuts...

But the stomach issues have remained (6yrs now) and is NBS or OIBS, -destruction of the digestive nerves and peristalsis, etc.. (similar to chronic benzo belly, i think)...

Anyways the V stops the cramping, and i guess for me this is the Duration of action that affects me...

At its worst it was about 5-6 hrs duration, before i started prucalopride... -that allowed me to cut a lot of V quickly with no effort (i had no idea about its w/d games then), and i was only on elevatsd doses a few months..

Now things have settled a bit, the cramps were back at about 16-18hrs post dose... -lower V, but maybe not technically a V w/d...?

Was getting some mental anxiety type s/x in conjunction with the cramps, and read this could be partly the brain gut connection, but thats a bit beyond me atm...

Feeling bit better today, cramps are more constant, but not so violent at times... -this could be the updose too...

I dont think staying on V is an option for all the normal reasons, and i feel it will hinder the recovery of my GI nerves, which im told could take years... But it sometimes sure feels like it would be nice to stay on...

Maybe someone has come across this before, maybe not... either way, its good to be able to ask, and have more thought put into it than many Drs ever did...

Thanks...

The short answer is NO.  Duration of effect really has nothing to do with withdrawal, or WD sxs.

Once again, duration of action refers to the therapeutic effect...the ability of the drug to relieve the original underlying disorder.

If you started taking V for an anxiety disorder, and it still controls your anxiety, (it still has a therapeutic effect) then once the duration of action time runs out, then your original anxiety will return.  But that's NOT a withdrawal symptom.

But the drug remains in the bloodstream, at almost full strength, for much, much longer than the duration of action.    Its the blood concentration that sooths withdrawal.  Interdose withdrawal is the emergence if withdrawal sxs that occur when the blood concentration falls to low.

I have to take just a bit of valium upon waking and the rest at 6pm.

I drink chamomile and lemon balm tea at noon or I can't make it. Helps me.

Thanks Whatamess,

Do u have digestive issues that chamomile helps with? I was wondering about lemon Grass tea, but havnt got around to picking some yet. I still have a little coffee on occasion, so far, so good...

I take digestive enzymes but most of my issues are food allergies. I guess they help.

Thats interesting, im no expert, but i have had a huge success with prucalopride. A 5HT 4 enzyme agonist... -i now have peristalsis...!!  But other (not smooth) muscles still cramp rather bad...

Was it hard to work out what works for you? What do your enzymes do?

Thanks... (if you dont mind)...

I eat plain no fat Greek Yogurt.

Thanks Bets,

I cant drink milk, and had just started to manage some normal "trendy" yogurt, when the Gasstro dr started on about his FODMAP crap... -yogurt was causing slight wind, but i think that might be the lipids, that wouldnt be in the no fat yogurt that u suggest...

I just dont think i could force any down, as much as i know i probably should...

-maybe on a good day..?

Cheers... :)
