Reaction to dose

Ok, this one is strange.......well maybe not to some of you.

My wife is doing a slow taper off Valium (see sig for progression) we've been taking things quite slowly and things are going pretty well for the most part. Some WD's after each cut but really nothing she can't handle. Not anything like back with the onset of all this.

Anyway, Jan 15 she made a .5mg cut and held for 2 weeks. That went about as good as one could ask, with minimal withdrawals. Sunday she went ahead and made another .5 cut

Things seemed ok til today. She doses 3x/day, so today was 3mgs morning, 5mgs mid day, and 5mgs mid to late afternoon. I asked her how her moring went and she said very good. She seemed fine up until she took her last dose of the day, then bang. Almost instantly after taking the dose her symptoms of anxiety and all the other goodies ramped up. What the heck?

I've been suspicious of her getting a paradoxical reaction to V for some time. But today really seemed to drive that thought home.

I'm far for a benzo expert or Dr, but does anyone on here know for sure what a paradoxical reaction to a benzo is. Does this sound like that?

To me it seems the drug brought on the symptoms this afternoon, rather than alleviate them.

I'm getting the exact same reactions to my late doses. I take 25mgs of valium, in 6 doses since I can't tolerate a 10mgs pill. My doses were at 7am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm, 7pm and 10pm BUT since about about ago I'm getting very bad reactions to the late doses. Now I take 10mgs at 7am, 10mgs at 10am, 2.5mgs at 2pm and 2.5gmgs at 8pm, that way I take most of the dose (20mgs) before noon and only 5 mgs later on, it has worked for me  :)

Hum, that's interesting Beefree and thanks for that reply. And can you elaborate on what symptoms you were getting with the late day doses?

The reason my wife doses more late in the day is because she's always suffered more sxs late in the day. She's always dosed multiple times per day which seems to have worked out good.

Maybe it's time to consider switching things up a bit

Seen your sig. 7,10,10,10?

My doses are as follows:

6 mg a.m.

5 mg, 2 p.m.

6 mg. 8 p.m.

20 mg, bedtime. :smitten:
