I am sooo friggen sick. I think the next time I go to a doctor and he tells me that I can't be this sick from tapering off such a small dose, or of all the people he has tapered off of benzos no one has displayed these symptoms. e.g. tinnitus, I'm going to grab him by his you know what's and start squeezing. When he complains about how much it hurts I'll tell him that of all the other people that I did this to he is the first one that ever complained about any pain.

You don't have any signature. I don't know what you've been on.

Tapering from a low dose can make one sick.

Tinnitus is really nasty, have had it for months now.

Haha don't harm your doctor, poor thing he doesn't know what withdrawal is, like so many docs.

Tack care now.

As I mentioned in another thread my doctor said that tinnitus is not a symptom of benzo tapering. But as I read here at least 50% of the people tapering off of benzos get tinnitus.

I started tapering off on 8MGs of Xanax daily 23 months ago. Was switched over to 6MGs of Klonopin daily a year ago. I made a cut last week ago and now I'm down to .625MGs of Klonopin daily.

The tinnitus started 16 months ago and is the worst of the symptoms. I was down to .375MGs and went cold turkey only to have to go back up to .75MGs again. I hope when I get off this crap the ringing goes away. I don't think I have another 16 months of ringing in me.

It scares the hell out of me when a doctor tells me I'm pretty much screwed because even when I finish the taper the ringing will never go away. Sometimes I wish I never started the taper. I know this is the wrong place to say that. The nurse that was prescribing the Xanax warned me not to go off of it because my ears would start ringing. It gets so loud I have panic attacks. I didn't expect this. It will be two years April/May that I started the taper.

She's the last one that was willing to keep me at 8MGs of Xanax a day. She retired in 2016. Everyone is jumping on the new anti-benzo band wagon so sooner or later I would have been cut way back. My current doctor will only go as high as 1MG of Klonopin daily. He wanted me to stay at .75MGs but I don't see the ringing ever going away if I stay on it. It's always bad but as soon as I drop below .75MGs the shit really hits the fan.

Everyone's probably getting tired of hearing me complain about the tinnitus but...

I've had tinnitus for close to two years.  It started when I began tapering.  It is slightly less in severity now and I had seen some "minor" improvement recently.  I have been to doctor after doctor through the years and none of them has seen in others what they have seen in me (i.e., from benzos).

It seems that I have fallen "out of the box" for most physicians and so I have been on my own.  Only when I come on this website am I assured that it is benzos and that healing, however long it takes, does indeed occur.

This is getting ridiculous. I woke up this morning and it's louder than it's ever been. I keep holding on thinking if I wait just a little longer maybe it will get quieter. Or maybe if I do a hold for a while maybe that will help. My middle daughter who I haven't heard from in almost five years sent me a birthday present. It's waiting for me at the post office. I was so excited. Now the thought of getting in my car to drive there seems like too much. It's so loud it hurts. It's been getting steadily louder for sixteen months now. I'm really despondent. I have some Ativan that I could take on top of the Klonopin but it would be just a matter of time before that ran out and I would be back in the same mess. I don't know...

ive been a guitar player in metal bands for nearly 30 years and in my younger partying days definitely did some damage (i now wear earplugs EVERY time I play or rehearse); but anyway, I guess being pretty sensitive already to tinnitus, I can definitely confirm that withdrawal brings in waves of it the likes Ive never had before. LOUD. It does seem to correlate to cut and taper time.

As fishingguy mentioned, I combat it by having at least some background noise at night, chill, atmospheric music on low when I go sleep, or the sound of the fan, something.

But yeah, I definitely noticed a big spike in tinnitus from all this

Benzo withdrawal, boy hasnt this been a hoot....

And God I am so f**king sick. Every time I drop below .75MGs the shit hits the fan. I dropped .063MGs about two or more weeks ago and then another .063MGs about seven or eight days ago so I'm down to .625MGs and I feel awful. I blew it. I was down to .375MGs and I went cold turkey. And to think I would be off of it now. Dum. Dum. Dum. And it wasn't until I checked the benzo strength comparison charts out there that I found out how powerful Klonopin is. Even if I get down to .5MGs daily that's still a shit load of Klonopin. I had the sweats earlier. Shakes. The chills. I feel sick to my stomach.

I just had to go cold turkey... :tickedoff:

If I didn't have a pet I think I would be totally f**ked.

I a failed two miserble CTs and reinstated and this began a much more reasonable taper, which has worked for far. Towards the end of my K taper (.625 mg) I used that damned scale and jumped at .0006 mg. Did you squeeze him yet? ;D

Did you squeeze him yet? ;D

I take it you mean my guinea pig. Not yet. I was wondering how how hard I would have to through him against the wall before he would stick. Only kidding. I'm glad to have him around.

Oh. OK. Now I understand. I was having a conversation with someone about my guinea pig earlier. Cog fog. I like cog fog. I can be stupid and blame it on that.

I was just reading about how a too rapid or even being on Klonopin long term can cause nerve damage. I'm not going to even mention that to him at the next office visit.

Also, I wish he'd stop trying different medications on me. Around the same time I made my last cut he had me try Horizant. In two days the ringing went to a searing hissing. Now I don't know if it's from the cut, the medication or both... :-\

Benzodiazepines are classified as an ototoxic drug.  Oxotoxcity causes tinnitus. My ear drums feel like they are going to explode sometimes as well as tinnitus. Ask your doctor if he's aware of benzos being Oxotoxic. Doctors never cease to amaze me.
