Any other Exercise Enthusiasts feeling like they can't really exercise anymore?

I figured I'd start this thread. Before my taper I was really strong and fit. I would exercise intensely. After I started my taper and had a rough start with a cold turkey off Ritalin and too fast Xanax reduction, I have not been able to have the energy. motivation or strength to really work out at all.  Its pretty sad. I used to be able to do hundreds of pushups and now I shake after 15 seconds of planking. I know that this is because of the benzos and benzo withdrawal. Are any of you exercise junkies out there having similar issues? And if there are any people out there who have jumped and were able to regain their strength and stamina, please share. Thanks!

I'm a professional cyclist and let's just say an hour of yoga today was like climbing the alps. I've gone to more weight training bc my endurance is very limited. I shake just like you said but find that if I'm tapering slow enough I can exercise daily. My legs are very shaky and it's so hard to have to sit out on cycling competitively currently. I'm just trying to gain and keep weight on during this too. My clothes all no longer fit me it's insane really.

exercise intolerance was the very beginning of this awful journey. after quitting alcohol a few years ago i started hitting the gym hard. it was great, in my early 40's was stronger than i ever had been. started getting bad anxiety, adrenaline rushes and wooziness that wouldnt go away in the gym. now anything that brings on adrenaline kinda plummets me into blaaaaahhh mode.

it sucks, i went sober to essentially feel like im on a permanent acid trip now, a trip that doesnt let me exercise. ive lost in the 15-20lbs neighborhood of muscle since a year and a half ago. theres people who have gained or lost more, but for me, thats a lot.

i just cant push anything too hard. the only thing im pushing is my taper cause im so stupidly done with this crap. tolerance withdrawal really complicates a taper. you feel totally crappy and symptomatic before you even start tapering.

one of the things that drives me is that someday, maybe, ill be able to go into the gym and run and lift and get that great "weightlifters high" again, not the awful withdrawal high.  i hope all of mid 40's arent annihilated with all this.

ugh benzos...phooey

I wasn't a HUGE exerciser, but I would go to the gym 3-5 times a week and jog for 30 minutes and do about 30-45 minutes of weights. Last night was my first night going back to the gym in 6 months. I think July was the last time I went. During that time, I went from being 6'3, 210 lbs down to 180 lbs. I just did not have the energy nor desire to exercise during my taper. There was no way it was happening. For the last three weeks, I had been considering going back to the gym more and more. Last night, I renewed my membership and jogged for 15 minutes and did about 20 minutes of weights. I couldn't believe how weak I was. I felt a bit jittery last night and had some issues falling asleep, but those symptoms have all subsided today and I am going to go back tonight.

I am so sore today, but it is a good feeling. I am going to keep pushing and working to get myself back to where I want to be. I had a huge endorphin rush last night at the gym as well. It felt really good!

Linnie - I am an avid walker. I just love it. I work full time and at lunch I walk about 2.5 miles EVERY day. I was just telling my husband this past weekend how I hate how fatigued I feel. It's hard to exercise some days, but I make myself do it. Before I walk I feel very anxious, but afterwards it usually helps take that away for most of the remainder of the day. So walking really is my saving grace right now. Tired, hell yes, but feeling tired feels better to me than anxious.

It honestly was such a good feeling. Only 2 months ago, I couldn't have dreamed of even walking into a gym. I didn't have the energy and the mere thought of going out in public like that made me shutter. Just walking into the gym and knowing I could do it felt like another battle was won over this terrible affliction. Hang in there and you will be back, too!
