My story

Recommended Posts

Hi there! I have been taking all kinds of bezodiazepines for 7 years now. I have had times when I've been off them and felt healthy, but at the moment I'm in withdrawal. I was on clonazepam for a year and I just couldn't taper it by myself so I recently did a switch from clonazepam 1mg to diazepam and pregabalin. Now I'm slowly tapering diazepam. My current dose: 5 mg diazepam in the morning and 7,5 mg diazepam + 75 mg pregabalin in the evening. Before I was hospitalized I suffered from depression and apathy due to chronic clonazepam use.

At the moment I'm also recieveing trancranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) sessions to help with the depression symptoms.

I think that in general I feel a little bit better as I did before the switch, but I still have moments of despair and apathy. I also have anxiety, fatigue, occasional nausea, constipation and difficulties with concentrating. I've been following a milk an gluten free diet for approx. 6 months and I think it helps with my energy levels and stomach problems. I also take coconut oil, omega 3, probiotics and B-vitamins. Sometimes when I feel the depression wave coming I quikly make me a "antidepressive drink" which includes raw cocoa powder, coconut oil (virgin), almond or cashew milk, tumeric and a little bit of honey. When I get anxiety and heart palpilations I use magnesium oil. I rub it on my neck and chest.

I think the most frightening symptom for me is the total apathy - feelin totally emotionless. I get really stressed when it hits me, cause I just feel like lobotomized or like I have some sort of brain damage.

Hi  :) Welcome to BenzoBuddies!

I am glad you found us today. All of your symptoms are classic, including the emotional blunting. The recommended reduction rate for tapering is 5 to 10 percent every two weeks. A slow gradual taper is the best way to try to minimize symptoms.
